[FF5]Knix Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 but I wasn't to pleased about crying my eyes out at the end. That particular subject matter always chokes me up Then ya may want to pass on Shadowlands then. Quote
[TNT] Sonic Goo Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 The trailer for "The Lion, etc." said Christmas... Quote
daybreak Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 OMG! I just saw War Of The Worlds today! I didn't want to go at all but a friend of mine dragged me to a matinee earlier today...It was awesome! Tom Cruise was great, and Dakota Fanning stole the show...For those who are fans of the book or the older movie-this movie obviously takes place in modern times, but please don't discount the movie based on the time frame or deviations from the book! It was contemporary, it had fascinating social commentary, it attempted to answer some difficult sociological what-ifs, and the actors took it very seriously. It was extremely realistic to the extent that it could be realistic. While it had great special effects, what made the movie scary was what you 'didn't see...You see the perspective of the characters, what they saw and heard. This truly is a character driven movie, which, in and of itself, avoids most movie cliches in this genre. I was so scared! Go see it! Oh, and by the way, don't bring any children unless you want to pay for therapy sessions for the next 8-10 years... Quote
Belladonna Posted June 30, 2005 Author Posted June 30, 2005 It's killing me to wait to see WotW. I'm sure we'll catch it this weekend when the family are visiting. I was hoping it would be like you said, daybreak, more character driven. Did finally see Mr&Mrs Smith and we all enjoyed it a great deal. Excellent pick for a matinee movie on a hot summer day when you need some air conditioning. Quote
Leesy Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 I saw Kung Fu Hustle the other day. it was actually really good. Damn funny, the kung fu was sweet and the effects were really well done. And also to add to the Finding Neverland topic - good movie. My girlfriend cried a fair bit. Of course being a man, it didn't make me cry one bit. No sir... Quote
Genesis Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Sorry, a wee bit late, but better late than never: noone I know wants to see batman, and it looks soooo great! Yeah yeah yeah, this is an awesome movie, I think it's even better than both Tim Burton's (Batman 1 & 2 for those who wouldn't know). Very creative design, interesting characters, and there is a true balance between Waine and Batman. Furthermore, the script is really, really not bad at all, which is quite amazing for a super hero movie. Oh, and I can't wait to see the Fantastic 4!!! My childhood on widescreen Quote
Belladonna Posted June 30, 2005 Author Posted June 30, 2005 Oh, and I can't wait to see the Fantastic 4!!! My childhood on widescreen Me too! The only comic book I had a subscription for as a kid. Quote
RXS Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 OK...I just saw WotW. Read the book eons ago and was pleased they stuck to the theme...several deviations but still very entertaining. Great cinematography...I loved all the "framing" (where character is literally framed by something like broken glass - you'll know what I mean when you see it). Ending was a little weak and rushed I thought. For those who have not seen the movie, please do not continue reading as I am going to describe a scene from the movie. I'll try to be vague just in case you do read on...just remember this part of the show. Part that I kept thinking about on the drive home.... When Tom Cruise is forced to confront/kill the guy who went crazy and started making too much noise...thus putting Cruise and his daughter at risk for being caught. Quote
daybreak Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 I saw Charlie And The Chocolate Factory today From what I understand, this movie is much closer to the original book, and indeed, Felicity Dahl was an executive producer. Roald Dahl was not happy with the original film, so it was nice to see that the Dahl family was more involved with the process. I really enjoyed it. This film chooses to emphasize different points than the original film, which is indicative of its faithfulness to the book, and it also functions to compliment the original film, rather than replacing it. It's called 'Charlie' And The Chocolate Factory for a reason, as opposed to 'Willy Wonka' A.T.C.F. Go see it! Especially if you're a fan of Tim Burton and/or Depp! Quote
[TNT] Sonic Goo Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 I don't know if there's anyone still waiting for this, but there's an Aeon Flux movie coming out this september. I used to be a big fan, but CHARLIZE THERON AS AEON????? Quote
{GD}Independent Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 I just saw Nicole Kidman - oops I mean Bewitched and it was pretty Nicole Kidman - oops I mean funny! I loved all the Nicole Kidmans - oops I mean jokes and also the parts with Nicole Kidman - no, I mean Will Farrell. If you're a fan of Nicole Kidman and Nicole Kidman, you'll love this movie! OH, and I almost forgot to mention -- Nicole Kidman is in it, and she looks great! Quote
daybreak Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 I was a bit concerned about Charlize Theron playing Aeon Flux as well...however, I've been reading articles about the movie and apparently she's worked incredibly hard for this part and she definitely deserves the benefit of the doubt, I'll definitely see it. http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/15...005/story.jhtml Quote
[TNT] Sonic Goo Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Aeon is supposed to be a older, taller, (even) thinner, more muscular and impossibly proportioned. (Which makes the whole idea of doing it as live action a bit strange - unless you'd add a lot of cgi of course.) It just doesn't look like a good match. But I'll wait for the reviews. Quote
daybreak Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 I just saw Howl's Moving Castle! I didn't think it would ever come to this area but I'm so glad that it did! I would most certainly recommend it to anyone. It has Christian Bale (Batman Begins), Jena Malone (Saved!), Lauren Bacall (Dark Passage), etc......We may not see much more hand-drawn animation what with Disney switching to CG. Go see it! Quote
