Belladonna
I can't decide if this is cool or sad... The town next to mine has changed it's name from Greensburg to Black&Goldsburg. Officially. Papers were submitted and everything. It'll go back to Greensburg on Monday. Another town has changed it's name to 'Steelers'. Yes, people here are a wee bit obsessed with our home team. [FF5]Knix
Sad ...very Sad Thing is, that in Pittsburgh after the Steel industry died, it was for many years a depressed city, especially in the 70's. During that low period of people being out of work, and little industry to speak of, the Steelers, who had sucked since there inception finally became a good team. Check that starting in '73 they became a GREAT team. So that helped pick the spirit up of the entire city. From '74-80, the Steelers won 4 Super Bowls, which is incredible. Now that Pittsburgh has invested itself into the technology sector, it has come back some, but the fans will always remember the Steelers of yore, when those teams held the spirits up of a depressed city. Eliteone
I'll be the first to Congrat the Steelers in this thread though it really didn't not seem to be a fairly refereed game. Congrats Pitsburgh
Belladonna
It was a tough game, no doubt about it. The Seahawks were impressive. I'll agree one call regarding our quarterback's touchdown wasn't quite fair, but the Steelers have been dealing with calls like that being made against them all season, so I'm happy to call it karma. Even without that one, we'd still have won. Good game Seahawks. Congrats Steelers!!!
RXS
How about the offensive pass interference against the Seahawks in the endzone? That one was stunk! Congrats Steelers.
Spacko
Congratulations to all the Steelers fans and the team themselves! I do agree that they had some help from the ref, but I am sure they would have won anyway.
RXS
I'm not so sure Mari....final score was 10 -21 >>>Seahawks got a lousy offensive pass interference call after catching the ball in the endzone....that would have changed the score to 17 - 21 >>>Steelers got a gift from the NFL referee (a.k.a. home town ref) and gave Roethlisberger the TD when the Seahawks dropped him on the goal line before the ball crossed the plane....that would have made the score 17 - 14 Seahawks on those two calls alone (and OMG I could go on and on about some crazy calls). I was rooting for the Seahawks because they are a couple of hours up the road from me (you have to pick a favorite when you watch the superbowl right?), my team is the Denver Broncos...so don't think of me as a fanatical Seahawk fan...just calling it the way I saw it. Bad officiating happens all the time, bottom line, Steelers won - Congrats Steelers. But to say, "I'm sure they would have won anyway" may be a bit more than I can stomach. [FF5]Knix
I wanted the Steelers to win, but that was some of the worst refereeing i have seen in a SB ever. 1) Ben Rothlesberger did not break the plane of the goal line. Stevie Wonder (who did a pregame concert) could have seen that. 2) Right before D. Jack was called for the phantom push off on the Steelers CB/S in the endzone, that same player had hands on him, not pushing, but hands on him..WAAAAAAAAAAAAy past the allowed 5 yards from the line of scrimage. That was'nt called but this BS offesenive pass intefearence was? 3) This is more of a judgement call then a clear mistake like the first two, but the holding play on the right tackle of the Seahawks nullifying Hasseleback's pass down to the Steeler one yard line was bogus as well. The hawks were down 14-10 at that point and would have a least brought the game to 14-13. But on the other side of the coin, the Seahawks letting Rothlesberger complete that 3rd down pass to Hines Ward in traffic hurt real bad. Letting Parker scamper 75 yards untouched didn't help their cause either. I feel the better team won the game, but the league should fine those refs. That was horrible. Spacko
Knix' date='Feb 6 2006, 02:33 PM' post='30429'] 1) Ben Rothlesberger did not break the plane of the goal line. Stevie Wonder (who did a pregame concert) could have seen that. The rest I find hard to comment on as I have only barely grasped the basics of American football yet, but this also seemed obvious to me. Though if I understood the commentators correctly, if there was not a clear view of the ball in the situation, the TD should not be overturned. Now as Rothlisberger landed with that ball, his body was covering it. In theory it could've been anywhere underneath his body - of which a part was in the zone. So... My guess is there's some benefit of the doubt rule going on here.
Factor
granted the refs were horrible, honestly, all of u missed on that replay... rothlesberger did break the plane of the endzone, a little bit of the side of the ball was over the white line on that jump, right before he was hit, watch the replay closely... i didnt see it for the first few times, but when u look close enough, if u stop it RIGHT before he gets smacked, the ball is over the line just a tiny bit, which, by rule in the NFL, is a TD... but seatle should have not had the pass interference called against them... and they would have gotten that score and just been down 4... then the game would have been interesting, but i still dont feel they would have won... good game to both teams... [FF5]Knix
Actually Mari, if the referee would have called him short of a touchdown, then the onus would have been on Pittsburgh to contest the call (via a red flag thrown from the coach on the sideline). Then the referee would have to see via review indisputable evidence that the ball DID cross the plane of the goal line to overturn it. The problem was that the ref signaled it a touchdown, thus the onus went to Seattle. The refs had to see indisputable evidence that it DID NOT cross the plane. Factor I have it on tape, and replayed it. His head and shoulders crossed the plane...the football did not. Go to an eye doctor NOW!

MajorPayne
One can say kharma or luck or whatever. Would the Seahawks have won if the referees had been more impartial? inconclusive but we would have had a more exciting game. One could only imagine how it felt seeing the other team getting the "breaks" from the refs. I suspect the Seahawks attitudes in the 3rd quarter would have been different however had Jackson's TD counted etc. Rothlesberger call especially. But as Knix said once a call is made only indisputable obvious evidence can overturn a play in review and the video didn't give them that with the ref's percentage of overturning plays (he has one of the lowest ratios) with the review. One thing I find Ironic was everyone wanted to send Bettis of with a ring. The Seahawks center Robbie Tobeck had been to the super bowl twice and was looking for a ring too before he most likely retires yet no mention was made of that during all the hype. [FF5]Knix
BTW I think its cool how our "American Game" is watched all over the world now. When the 1st SB was played back in '67, they didn't even fill up LA Collesium! In Europe the game is only real popular in Germany, Holland, and Spain? Hopefully it will take off in other countries as well. And by popular, I mean there are a decent amount of people who follow it. The NFL-EUROPE league is made up of 5 German teams, and a Dutch team. Its gaining popularity in Japan and Australia too.

>FoXSy<
First of all, id like to start my post by hoping each of your favorite teams lost. I was at some superbowl party and i watched like ten, fifteen minutes of the game. It was horribly bad, only 31 total points! WTF! its like watching a basketball game in which the hot team shot 30% from the field, who could stand to watch that! I hope you all enjoyed watching the Seahawks play very bad and the Steelers play bad. The NBA All-Star game on Feb. 19, thats going to be real sports entertainment. Factor
ok, lets say that the ball didnt cross the plane with rothlesburger... so they settle for a field goal instead of 7... they are still up by 7...and u give the TD to seatle where there was a "push off"...tie game right?... but then u have to take into account all of the "what if's..."...since it would be two HUGE what if's...that were just taken b4, to make this a tie game... now, the last 3 times the steelers held the ball, they only ran it... except for one where rothlesburger thru it on the 4 yard line and it was picked off...so, lets say they actually played, and didnt run it, since it was a tied game and they were going for the lead... this give a huge possibility that they actually get into that endzone and actually score, instead of just trying to run out the time. this still gives the steelers the edge in the game, since seatle proved that the most possible points, would still not be enough, b/c pittsburgh would have had 3 chances just to pop a field goal in there, instead of running out time... i mean, nothing is saying they actually get the yards to get down there, but odds are in their favor for sure... so still, the game should have been WAY closer than it was, the refs really blew it, but in the end, pitt would have won anyway...
