Belladonna Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Superbowl XL Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Seattle Seahawks February 5, 2006 I find this a funny coincidence... my home team is going to clobber eliteone's home team. Quote
Eliteone Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Ummmm.....no. couldn't have said it better myself GO SEATTLE SEAHAWKS !!! Quote
[FF5]Knix Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Um Bella...you're from Buffalo, please be carefull not to sprain an ankle jumping on that Steeler Bandwagon. I am going to cheer for the Steelers, as they were my first team (circa 1979), and played in the first superbowl I ever watched (Jan '80 vs the LA Rams). Quote

Lodingi Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 there is something odd in saying the seahawks are in the super bowl. i'm thinking WTF!! anyway, GO STEELERS! Quote
MajorPayne Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 WTF? My a$$ .......... 2005 Regular season standings Seattle SeaHawks 13 Wins 3 Losses Pitsburgh Steelers 11 Wins 5 Losses Seattle has earned the right to be there. We'll find out in two weeks who is the best team. Facts: The SeaHawks have more players on their current team that have been to a super bowl before than the Steelers do. Quote
Factor Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Major...that last "Fact" means nothing... a few little thingy's if u didnt pick up on them... 1) did u see how calm and composed Big Ben has been all these playoffs...the guys is gonna tear up your already weak pass defence.... 2) Pittsburgh has the FAR better Defence...and matt hasselbeck is gonna want to go home crying to mommy by the end of the 1st half after Troy Palamalu and Joey Porter have their way with him. the Steelers are playing with something that plays in their favor BIG time this game... they have HEART...they want this thing SOOOOO BAD, for Bettis...and they will get it for them, and put their asses on the line for him. besides, if i called the Steelers, u cant go against me, im 9 of 10 these playoffs in my picks... not even the doods on ESPN are doing that good *************************************************************************** i posted this in a different section but found this, so ill just paste it here... (a lot of stuff is just repeat of stuff i said above, but different wording) i have only called 1 game wrong these whole playoffs...that means im 9 for 10 in my calls... the only game i called wrong being Cincinatti over Steelers... just want to let you know... Seatle, i do feel has the better team in this game... but im picking the steelers, for 2 reasons... 1) they are one of my favorite teams... (titans are my favorite though) 2) they have heart in this game, like no team ever has before...they are playing for Bettis...and they will not let him down...he is gonna go out with a superbowl ring in his home town, and retire like a champ, and there will be a million tears falling down everyones face and all of that... i mean, seriously, even if u arent a pittsburgh fan, u have to be cheering on bettis to get that ring... come on, the 5th greatest running back of all time...he has had an amazing career, and the guy is humungous...and still able to get all those yards... mad props... GO STEELERS! *nuff said* Quote

You can tell the caliber of the fan based upon what they post. I have not slammed the Steelers team members yet in reading your post, well seems you have thrown the mud at Seattle. Seattle has waited 30 years to get to the Superbowl don't dismiss that when you compare playing from the heart either. We can smack talk till we are blue in the face but it all boils down to the day of the game. Unlike your smack talk I will wish both side the best of luck and leave it at that. Quote
Factor Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 i didnt smack talk... ok well, besides the Matt Hasselback thingy... but yah, that is a little smack talk, sorry i am just speculating, and saying that Pitt has the Defensive edge... although, Seatle has the offensive edge... then again, defence wins championships and seatles *heart*... none of these current players have been on the team for those 30 years, so they could care less... they accomplished the goal, which was getting to the super bowl...it has been 30 years since that... there are MANY teams in the nfl that have never won a championship... and most of your team is really young, so they are really new to the orginaztion... i think pitt gets the win this year, and seatle takes the experience from this game, and wins next year by a landslide... *just my opinion* Quote
MajorPayne Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 i didnt smack talk... ok well, besides the Matt Hasselback thingy... but yah, that is a little smack talk, sorry i am just speculating, and saying that Pitt has the Defensive edge... although, Seatle has the offensive edge... then again, defence wins championships Did you not watch the Panthers Seahawks game? I watched the Broncos Steelers one.In case you didn't Seattle's defense held Carolina in check practically shutting them down even. By the Numbers 5 Career touchdowns in playoff games by Shaun Alexander, a Seahawks record. Steve Largent had had four TDs in seven playoff games. This was Alexander's fourth game. 33 Receiving yards by Carolina's Steve Smith, who had 12 catches for 218 yards the previous week in Chicago. Smith did not have a catch until the second quarter. He did return a punt 59 yards for a touchdown. 212 The Seahawks' defense set a team playoff record by holding Carolina to 212 yards. The Panthers had just 62 yards in the first half. The previous low by a Seahawks opponent was 240 yards. 393 The Seahawks recorded the second-most yards in team playoff history. The record was 413 last season against the St. Louis Rams. If you read some of the papers they are calling this Super Bowl a pretty even match up. So I a looking forward to a good football game no matter who wins in the end cause I think both these teams are going to give it their all which makes for a good game to watch for all of us. Quote
Factor Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 yes as a matter of fact i did watch the seahawks game...and the steelers... but thats just cuz i had lots of money on both games, and ended up coming up big anywayz... the "AMAZING STAT" u pulled out...about Seatle's "amazing pass defence" was not a great one...especially for some1 who was watching this game... 1) Jake Delhomme is WAY over-rated, i been saying it for forever...he tries to squeeze it in to a reciever with 4 guys covering him...at all points in the game...he wouldnt even throw to his other recievers...and when he finally did at the end, it was an easy touchdown... 2) the Panthers were down to their 4th string running back...and their RUN OFFENCE, is definatly the stronger part of their offence...once they got to their 4th running back, it was super easy for seatle, they just dropped everyone back into coverage, and blitzed like crazy, cuz they had no respect for that 4th stringer...he sucked anywayz... so those stats are all weak... and all the "seahawk playoff records" they were setting... thats nothing... the team barely ever makes the playoffs, and when they do, they dont go anywhere in them, so of course, their records probably arent too high -im just a hater- Steelers fan Quote
MajorPayne Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I guess those of us in the west get tired of hearing all the smack talk all the time. Seattle has earned the rights to play in the Superbowl based upon their performance as a team this season. They earned home field advantage in the play offs with a bi week cause of their season performance so yes the season play does count. Those are facts. The Steelers haver earned the right to play in the Super Bowl based upon their performance as a team this season. Their performance in the playoff on the road secured their trip to the SuperBowl, these are facts. Congrats to them both and let the game day decide it. Quote
Factor Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 yes, i agree, sorry about that, i just love arguing about football, b/c i only know 1 other person where i live that can talk about football on a competitive level with me, and it kills me, so football conversations in forums just get me going and as far as "west coast" stuff... im from southern cali man i have nothing against the seahawks actually, i really like the team, and sean alexander is one of my favorite players to watch, i was just trying to defend with FACTS, why i thought the steelers would win... but yes, im from Southern California and my 2 favorite football teams are nowhere near here... 1 - Tennessee Titans 2 - Pittsburgh Steelers and then any team with guys from USC, i love USC is the only home team i actually like so of course i root for Carson Palmer and the Bengals a lot... and Detroit Lions and Mike Williams anywayz...enough rambling on from me... if anyone else wants to argue witts with me plz do, i love football arguements (im young and immature, leave me alone) Good Luck To Both Teams, Nice Job At Making It This Far. Belladonna Posted January 24, 2006 Author Posted January 24, 2006 I guess those of us in the west get tired of hearing all the smack talk all the time. Now I don't talk to an excessively large number of football fans, but in all my life I've never once heard any derogatory comments about 'the west'. There have been 'National' vs 'American' discussions, but east or west had nothing whatsoever to do with it. I have no idea what the heck you're talking about and neither does anyone else I've asked. What I have been hearing the last few weeks is that the Steelers are 'no good' and the last few days 'they don't deserve to be in the Superbowl'. That ticks me off. Both the Seahawks and the Steelers deserve to be in the Superbowl. Some say the other teams in the playoffs were having an off day and that's why they won their conferences. That might be so, but any loser can whine and claim they were having an 'off day'. Heck, last year I could say the Steelers were having an 'off day' and that's why they didn't get to the Superbowl then. Stop whining over what could have been and lets look forward to the big game. I want the Steelers to win, no doubt about it. My saying I want them to win sure isn't trash talk. My firm belief that they are playing with more heart isn't either. I've been listening to the players for weeks, and it's clear the whole team wants Bettis to leave the team with a ring on his thumb. Bettis wants Cowher to win and have his coaching career justified after years of being put down. It's not only about winning this time. They've been focused like they never have been before and it's a different team this time around. Now Seattle might have heart too, but I haven't been following them like I do my home team and I have no desire to. I want to watch the game and see my team win, just like everyone else does. Quote
[FF5]Knix Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Maybe someone can explain to me how you can have more then one favorite team in a sport? The teams I like in the big 4 sports (U.S. Sports that is) are clearly listed below. Now I may prefer the Steelers to win the SB, just because I remember watching Bradshaw, and Swann, and Lambert, et all growing up, but if they were playing the Giants, I would want Strahan and Osi to knock the )(*&)(*&)((ing wheels off the bus! And how the heck can you be a fan of a team that is 2000 miles from where you live factor? Now I'm not doggin' factor particularly, as I know a quite a few people who are Cowboy's fans, and have never stepped foot in Texas for example. For me, I could never "cheer" for a team outside New York. Like I said, if I have no vested interest in who wins a game, I would go to a lesser reason to "root" for a team. That being said, I could never support a team year in year out that is not in the city where I was born and gerw up. Maybe I could understand if you moved around alot, or the team you cheered for moved to a diff city...but thats about the only reason I could think of.....oh and not having a NFL team in the city where you reside is another . Quote
Factor Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 well, the nearest team to where i live is a 2 and a half hour drive... and i make that game once a year always, and sometimes 2x a year... the titans almost always play the chargers, so im always down there watching that game, and when the steelers visit them, im down there again... but really...the titans are the only sports team i have stuck with my whole life... i am more of a guy who falls in love with "players" not "teams"... so i have lots of teams i like... like basketball... Shawn Marrion is my boy...so i love the Suns... Baseball i do like the angels though...15 minute drive to their stadium, and i have been plenty... Soccer, i have stuck with one team my whole life though...Arsenal anywayz...the way i got to liking the Titans... a reciever almost all of u will have no idea who he is... name of Yancey Thigpen... when i was younger my favorite team was always the steelers...they appealed to a young man i guess...i still have the team blanket, a beach towel, a jacket, and all this stuff...from when i was younger... but then yancey thigpen left the team and went to the Houston Oilers...so then i followed him and dropped the steelers...and ever since them, the Oilers/Titans have been my team...even after thigpen retired the year after the Titans visited the super bowl...i actually stuck with them... and i have always liked the Steelers, since they were my first love...but they are second to the titans... Kordell Stewart was the bomb though...he was never given a chance i mean, the only team i grew up around was the Anaheim Angels...so that was the only team that really grew on me... i have been to like...1000 Angels games...and its not really even to watch games anymore... we just get groups of 15-20 people to go, and we go to the HIGHEST corner, and screw around... they have a deal, like...2 dollar tickets for high school students...and its not even the nose bleed section, we just go up there cuz its more fun!... but yah, when u dont have a team to like, u start liking players... my favorite player from the titans just left this year... it sucked, but i still a titans fan... that player was Samari Rolle... but yah, enough rambling on... sorry im not all for "the home team"... but there isnt much of "a home team" around me...since LA has no teams... Eliteone Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Bella I think he was refering to Factor's smack talk and Knix bring up a good point. Major has followed the Seahawks since the Steve Largent days etc. People in Seattle ar estatic that their team made it finally so I suspect that is why he took offense. You haven't posted any "smack" wanting "your" team to win no matter what the sport is natural. However have to trash talk only shows people your character Quote

PPS- For the love ...Bella! its not the National and American.... Its the NFC (National football conference) and the AFC (american football conference) The big thing stereotype in all sports in regards to East vs. West, is always this.. The east are big monster plodders who believe in Defense first, and beating you up. The west in all the big sports are stereotyped as flashy offensive run and gun..thus the term "the west-coast offense" started by bill walsh and the 49'ers. Of course this is not the case all the time, but you do tend to see this trend. As far as the Seattle is concerned, they have been without a championship of any sort since the supersonics in '79. The Mariners did real well in the 90's only always to come up just short in the playoffs. The sonics haven't been good since the late 90's either. The Sea-hags last had a good team back in '84 with the likes of Jim Zorn, and REPUBLICAN SENATOR Steve Largent (----. [FF5]Knix Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Ahh I've heard this before. The New York Football Giants' home offices are in New York City. We may play in the swamps of East Rutherford NJ, but that is because the land around NYC is too valuable to put any new stadium. They are known as the New YORK Giants. Just like the COwboys are not called the Irving Cowboys, or the Landover,MD Redskins, even though those 2 teams play in those towns. Pick a team and stick with them dingi...even if that team is the Buffalo Bills Quote
