Ddraw.dll errors when trying to launch a game

Recommended Posts

Problem:

When trying to start a game you get errors referencing to "ddraw.dll".

General Protection Fault or Invalid Page Fault in module DDraw.dll

Solution:

The error could be due the fact that either latest DirectX is not installed on your computer and also if the video card drivers are not up-to-date or DirectX compatible.

The game you're trying to play is using DirectX and it's importanat to make sure that you have the latest DirectX installed (latest is 9.1C as of Jan 06).

You can install Directx from the game disc you have or you can download the latest version from: http://www.microsoft.com/directx

If problems persist, please update your video card drivers. Contact the manufacturer of your video card for the latest drivers for your hardware. Many manufacturers update their drivers every three months. Updating your drivers usually eliminates conflicts, expands features, increases stability, and will include application-specific fixes that the manufacturer chooses to address.

To the identify the hardware and update the drivers, follow these steps:

Windows 98

* Right-click the My Computer icon.

* Click on Properties from the menu that appears.

* Click on the Device Manager tab.

* Click the "+" symbol in front of Display Adapters (the video card listing should drop down).

* Write down the type and model of your card.

Windows 2000 or XP

* Right-click the My Computer icon.

* Click on Properties from the menu that appears.

* Click on the Hardware tab.

* Click on the Device Manager button.

* Click the "+" symbol in front of Display Adapters (the video card listing should drop down).

* Write down the type and model of your card.
