Kobe's Suspension

Kobe suspended two games for vicious elbow

NEW YORK (AP) - Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant was suspended for two games without pay Friday for elbowing Mike Miller of the Memphis Grizzlies in the throat.

Bryant was called for a flagrant foul for elbowing Miller with 8:24 remaining in the fourth quarter in Wednesday night's 100-99 overtime loss to the Grizzlies. He is scheduled to serve his suspension Sunday, when the Lakers host Utah, and Tuesday, when Los Angeles plays at the Jazz.

"Very surprised. Shocked, actually. Very, very surprised," Bryant said after practice Friday. "Angry and frustrated. I've been hit with a couple of flagrant fouls already this year. I've been hit with a clothesline and no suspensions come of that. and I get two games for this?"

After the game, Bryant was unapologetic. He was cut over his left eye early in the third quarter when Miller elbowed him while driving to the basket. Bryant left the game briefly, and took three stitches to close the wound.

"Any player that was going to come down the lane at that point in time, I was going to let him know that he just can't walk through there," Bryant said after the game. "I think we as a team have to do a better job of establishing that. And me, as a leader of the ballclub, I've got to take the initiative to do that - and hopefully, everybody will see that.

"This being our home court, people come here and think it's Hollywood and all sorts of stuff, so they think they'll come down (the lane) and look pretty and shoot jump shots and dunk the ball and finger-roll the ball and do all sorts of cute stuff. And we've got to stop that."

Bryant said his postgame comments were "no different than what everybody else says."

"Somebody comes down the lane, you've got to hit him," he said Friday. "You can't let them come down the lane and just finger roll and get easy baskets. Nothing to hurt anybody like that. That's just basic NBA basketball."

Bryant also said he didn't believe the elbow from Miller was intentional.

"You look at the replay, my face was nowhere near him," Bryant said. "My face was nowhere near his arm.

"I wish I could go back in time and take that foul back knowing what I know now, getting two games for it. But no way in my mind did I think it was going to be a suspension for something like that. No way."

Lakers coach Phil Jackson said he believed Bryant's postgame comments were a factor in the suspension.

"I think that contributed to it somewhat," Jackson said. "So we live with that decision."

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak took issue with the suspension.

"We understand that the league has a job to do in enforcing disciplinary action, but we disagree with and are disappointed with their ruling," Kupchak said in a statement.

WORD! He's got some talent and potential, I'll give him that, but his respect of the game and the other players is pathetic. He needs a good beeeeotch slap!

The way I read this it's all about his attitude. It would be one thing for him to be remorsful or apologizing but it sounds like he took a different road instead.

Kobe scores 62 points in 33 minutes which is Wilt Chamberline rare

but no one gives the man his props but now a topic about negativity

and already theres four replys, cant wait for KXs reply.

I aint backing Kobe for his actions, it was wrong and IMO intentional.

He couldnt control his anger after being cut by his eyebrow and blood

flowed down his neck, the new york media describes it as a "cut" :lol2:

Miller had a razor blade or something in his hands, i watch a lot of Laker

games and Kobes took alot of vicious elbows and this is the first time i

remember he reacted with vengence so dont give me the "he doesnt respect" BS.

well, (and im not saying what kobe did was right) but if u watched the game...

did u see the elbow miller threw at kobe?

and no flagrant foul was called there...

and kobe's hit on miller, did not look like it was on purpose...he has his arm up in the air, and he has his head turned when miller ran into the forearm...

and i would have felt the same way kobe does...

i mean, sure he has a bad attitude towards the game..

but he is stuck on a team with a bunch of sucky players...

and he is expected to do all this HUGE stuff for them...

so he is prolly really stressed out and stuff...

i mean, they got him lamar odom to try and fill in for shaq...and lamar has done nothing but suck big time since he came here...

he shoulda stayed on the clippers...that was the only time in his career that he was good...

Yeah, I feel real bad Kobe...he gets paid millions of dollars to play basketball and live like a superstar. Pooooor guy.

He may be on a sucky team now, but just a couple of years ago he played with some of the best in the NBA...what was his excuse then? He still acted the same way if not worse.

Kobe blows!

Isn't it incredible that the Lakers made it to the finals a year and a half ago? Yeah, they got BEATCH SLAPPED by my Pistons, but, hey, they were in the finals!

haha, the Suns are my team, its all about Shawn Marion!!!

but yah...

Kobe will never fully grow up...he is always gonna be a very selfish and immature player...

and its gonna be impossible for him to get along with anyone, unless that person is 5x his size and weight, and helps him actually win...(shaq)...

until kobe gets another shaq...expect a lot more shizzy behavior...

unless Bynum actually becomes good...which his isnt lookin too bad right now...

Sounds like one of those things that are understandable, but wrong. Not responding to provocations is just one of those qualities that make you a better player.

Ive always wondered, do they show NBA games in europe?

I bet only Laker and Celtics games, not New York 'cause

they want to attract like fans not scare away :P

Fac, go move to phoenix you team-hopper <_<

EDIT: I bet no one read my post:

Foxsy: it's usually just the most important games, mixed up with all the other lesser sports (it gets less time than field hockey or speed skating, for example).

So europe has yet to discover the new york snicker-boxers :P

RXS, get with the program im sarcastic 50% of the time

but i just cant figure out how someones nails could be so

sharp as to inflict a wound that big, in fact im being sarcastic

right now when i say Vals last post was smart.

and thats one of the worst excuses for hating,

"hes in it for the money" you think hes trying to

become a billionaire, if he was in it for the money you

think hed rather be at home with his daughter and wife

considering he has enough money to last him a lifetime and then some.

yah but seeing as he is making about 20 million a year...and then all his endorsements...

he could save up just a little bit of that, and be fine ;)

lets just say he pulls out 5 million of all that money...

puts it in the bank and saves it...

and then retires...

just to chill at home for forever...

1) he will still probably have the endorsements (michael jordan still does)

2) 5 million dollars is more than any man needs to live his whole life...

and if he is scared...he can go get a minimun wage job, and he will be just fine...

and foxsy...callin me a band waggon hopper?

u crazy mofo...

the lakers are almost my least favorite team...

but im not much of a "team" guy...

i just go for players...so the teams the players i like are the teams i like...

the only 2 sports i really have "teams" in is Soccer and Football...

Arsenal for soccer...Tennessee Titans for football...

basketball i really like Detroit Pistons (RIP Hamiliton)...the Suns (Shawn Marion)... and then i love the clippers...just cuz i like an underdog...so ive always liked them...except this year they arent really an underdog...

Sam Cassel is the shiznit :D

ok kids, break it up...

we can hate on kobe, b/c he is a ball hog...

he "has no teammates" as all u laker fans would defend him by saying...when in all actuallity...all 4 other starters on his team have a higher shooting percentage than him...and so do 2 or 3 bench players...

so as i will say for the millionth time...the guy has a team, he just never passes the ball to find them ;)

if my ONLY chance at making it in the NBA was to be on the Lakers with Kobe...i wouldnt play...b/c no matter how good u are...you arent gonna get the ball, so no1 will ever see your true talent...

look at tyrone lue...the guy never got the ball the 2 or 3 years he was on the lakers...now he is on atlanta gettin 11 ppg....

derrick fisher, made the huge .4 second shot, cuz he finally got the ball...

he never got the ball so he left...

he is gettin almost 13 ppg with golden state...

im seeing a pattern here...

players excel when they dont play with the biggest ball-hog in the league...and then u actually find out...hey, kobe did actually have ppl with talent on his team, he just never passed the ball to find out...

o and in case u want the shooting percentages...

http://www.nba.com/lakers/stats/index.html

check it out...Kobe's shooting percentage is the total teams AVERAGE...

that means, kobe is just an average player, who takes WAY too many shots ;)

o and just to rub it in...

at least my star player can make a basket once in a while without shootin 40 a game...

shawn marion shooting percentage - .515

over almost .75 over kobe...

maybe he should shoot a little less ;)

o, and kobe being such a ball hog has him double the amount of turnovers shawn marion does ;)
