Natter Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I often saw last times: Theres no more respect for our newcomers!!! Thats like we do a nolf-suicide!!! Noobs (realy noobs who play first times, not the phos-noobs, rocket-noobs or device-builder-noobs who we are all sometimes) are the MOST IMPORTANT PLAYERS They fill the spots of the players who went to other games or stoped Nolfing (Stop Nolfing?..what a sick idea) Not much will stay if we shout NOOOOOB at them or shoot them without mercy every second. Nolf-fights become harder and harder bcs every old players become better and better.... ok not realy all, but most . A hard territory for newcomers..... Its easy...if u come along such a person...just avoid his/her attac with a few moves and give them a chance. Talk to them and told em how they could help the team...things like tagging or just say "Follow me". Some are well talented and can help to save ur backside during u lean or carry a part if u tell em how to do this. Just say a "G1" if he/she make a kill and give them a hand. Remember ur own Noob-time...... Btw...I saw a few ole good players who try to help the newcomers anyway... Its a question of the character.... Amen...from Nat...and now brush ur teeth and go to bed
[TNT] Sonic Goo Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 Or just take on a bunch of them on your own, just to even things out.
>FoXSy< Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Its in their nature to hate noobs, unless the noob is a girl, of course
Eliteone Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Foxsy you missed his point it seems. If you treat new players rudely they quick put away their CDs and move on to another game. So heed Natter's advice it's good advice. Sidenote in general too if you don't have anything topic related to post then don't post.
>FoXSy< Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Nah, i get his point...just adding my opinion to it. its not a matter of all vets treating noobs bad, just some.
Moody Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 lol I wish i was here the first time Foxsy played I do remember the first time I played and it was not a pretty sight
{GD}Independent Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 If i'm playing with noobs, or if my ping is ridiculously good and everyone else's is bad, i'll either switch to tagging, or use a weapon like the fire or poison crossbow, or just a pistol. that way, i can still have a challenging game, and they won't get discouraged.
Eliteone Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 The whole key is to not rub in people's faces things like "You were OWNED" or "Phos NOOB" or any such comments. Most new players realize they will probably get pasted in the game at first but it's the attitude people give them that makes them want to play again. Ive even offered advice to people in game on how to improve their gameplay.
Cel Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Oh yes I only started dd a few months back and what strikes me about that time is the players (who I know now are some of the most experienced) being so helpful to me. Just a few kind words can go a long way with a new player as you expect to die a lot anyway. I also remember listening to the other players joking and laughing with each other and I thought that was really nice too. Sometimes it's easy to forget how it feels to be new and not know anyone, and this is in all areas of our lives. But as mentioned before; it's the players who take a kind and tolerant attitude to all players new and old that makes NOLF such a special game for me. Nice topic Natter, you were one of the many special players who was so kind to me when I first started. Thankyou for that!
PHNX Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 you are so right i remember my noob-time so well too and i am still some kind of noob i often try to help but i just help if the noob isnt any lordly 'donkey' (hahaha the bad word filter) but to communicate they have to speak english (or german) and know how to chat in game but i think its also enogh not to hunt them and let them a chance
[TNT] Sonic Goo Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Everytime I buy a new game I become noob again. /currently playing HL2-DM as noobydoobydoo //slashy slashy
Eliteone Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 Hmmmmm We have the world according to Foxsy or the way it could be. People tend to evaluate a game based upon the clans and people in general playing. So the atitiude projected goes along way in a game as old as the Nolf Series are. People pick the game inexpensive enough that they usually will try the multiplayer after they've done the single player. So if people are rude to them in multiplayer they will end up shevling the game as they already played it enough to justify the expense. So summary "Treat others how you would like to be treated" period. It will go along way too
Natter Posted October 17, 2005 Author Posted October 17, 2005 Hey Fox you cannot compare Nolf with other games like CSS or COD. They are more...erm..serious, got a serious background. (Terror and War) But on a game with that comical kind of humor (think its british hehe) like in Nolf... theres no place for rude(ness?). Nolf is the rare exception of all shooters.
ONYX Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Good post Natt……..I totally agree with you…….the noob is the lifeblood of NOLF, and we should respect them. I think, if Foxy is talking about not patronising the noobs, I agree with that too, they do expect to die, but Cel's point of being nice is the important one. This is what makes NOLF different to most other games, its not serious, its friendly & fun lovin (maybe that's why Foxy don't play much anymore? )
Azazel Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 I agree! please be nice to me and don't destroy me just cuz i am a nOObie!! :]
Moody Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 You know...It's true natter...But you could also turn this around. Some people aren't very nice and friendly against more skilled players. It's not only the noobs who want to be treated nice. And other people who change their name just so they are able to harrass people. Just don't want to be caught with their original name but still have the same IP:s (edited) Other people steals other players names. etc etc....

It's not only the noobs who want to be treated nice. Last time I had a new player who, after me snipering him several times, said he wanted to "cut my balls of".
Factor Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 [sorry to be the voice of reason...again] we dont need to pull a "Nolf-Suicide"... Nolf is doing it itself... and now with the release of F.E.A.R...nolf just lost that many more players... im estimating that by about january or febuary...the only people left nolfing...will be those who are REALLY persistent... u will probably almost never see a full server again... its on this huge downward spiral that it wont recover from... just look at nolf1...just 2 months ago it was packed...had easily double...probably triple the number of players nolf2 does...now, it barely gets 2 good servers going a night... time to face reality guys...move on...[until nolf3]
RXS Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 There was as full server this afternoon... But thanks for being the voice of reason for us....without you, I might have gone on playing NOLF forever!

It caters to a different audience. Goes for the blood, gore intense violence and language route. It lacked the lighthearted humour of the Nolf series games. I don't get on the soapbox often but when you come into a topic that is commenting on player attitudes and start making funeral arrangements for our community (who gave you the right to make that call anyhow?) you might as well not bother to visit here anymore. FEAR I tryed it didn't see any "revolutionary" concepts in it. It has flashy graphics yes but does it have the long term staying power? only time will tell that. There are a lot of games out there that have the soldier combat theme and the scary side too. It's not an original idea and it's certainly not nolf. A game engine does not make a game. The fans of the game make the game and you may be surprised at the type the theme of FEAR atttracts.
RXS Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Not only that, but we've heard all this rubish before like when UT 2004 came out...it was going to be the end of nolf. Then the next game came out...and the next, etc, etc....guess what? We're still here, and some of you (sp@zz) are still telling us how you are moving on. Thank heavens you grace us with your presence and post wisdom and clever advice in the forums yet again.
blue Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 voice of reason. man, my sides are still hurting. who are you kidding, factor? i haven't heard a reasonable/logical thought come from you since.....ever. you've already made a huge drama and deal about WR leaving and how nolf 2 is dying etc, etc. please do us poor souls - doomed forever to play a game meant for n00bs - alone. you are obviously a superior, higher being and we are not worthy of your presence. on an ending note, my most favorite memory of factor is him being shamed by the ST clan. first he talks about how much of a p-i-m-p he is, and then he calls father a pile of sticks , and acts as if he didn't do anything wrong. *sigh* good times, good times.

Ah yes....one of my favorite memories as well...the good ol' days. I fondly remember the time we were discussing religions and factor said he was a Catholic, but not a Christian (we had to explain that Catholics believe in Christ, thus making them a Christian religion)...made my sides hurt!
Spacko Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 As much as this stroll down memory lane warms my heart let's move on from Factor-bashing, kk? To follow up on what Moody said, which was very true, lots of people find themselves treated with disrespect on Nolf from time to time. If you're too good, too bad, even the device, not end the device, use rockets too much, use phos too much, etc etc etc! It ain't always the same people bitching either. It isn't just the vets who need to treat the n00bs with respect.
>FoXSy< Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 (EDIT: Go write a paper stating why viagra =P is a bad word and get 10,000 signatures and send it to the government to get signed as a bill... until then, keep your anti-sex, priest-like thoughts of what is and isnt appropriate for this forum to yourself, thanks.) Wow, that "freedom of speech" song would be so appropriate right about now... If your going to ban me for breaking an imaginary you wish existed, go ahead. -_- I got to ask, who do you hate/dislike the most, Blue, me or Factor? Sorry for getting off-topic... to asnwer your question Onyx, i been busy, ill drop by some time
