You know my post was about a link to help the victims here nothing more than that. Let's not Hi-Jack the thread and twist matters into more than the goal, which is helping the victims here.

Props to the people of Texas for their outpouring of compassion. In Houston, approx 45,000 people are living with relatives or friends and 150,000 are refugees at the Astro Dome. Churches (of all faiths) have joined forces in the Houston area have taken on the task of providing meals for the refugees for two months at the tune of 9 Million dollars. Dallas has offered to absorb 20,000 refugees and San Antonio will absorb 10,000 more. Impressive to me.

Speaking of getting back to topic, I'm quite curious about this quote:

I woul donate, but I've heard too many things about the Red Cross, that leads me to not trust them.

AFAIK the Red Cross is one of, if not the, most impartial and reliable charities in this world. Care to elaborate?

Err, yes, I never heard anything negative about the Red Cross, thank goodness, otherwise no-one would donate to any charitiy anymore. It must be the biggest NGO on this planet, and if anything bad woulda happened, I think we'd all know about it.

All i know about the Red Cross is from people who dealt with them in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam when they were soldiers. From what these people told me, you could not have any contact with the outside world, with out the Red cross having their hands in on it. A letter home, required it be "assisted" through the red cross for a nominal fee. At the mess tent, every week, hats passed around to the soldiers by the red cross asking for money. Makes me skeptical. I heard the same thing from different people at different times. my money is going through a different organization.

I just saw this, pretty big statement but i dont really agree with 'em

black people just happend to be the minority in NO so they couldnt

get out of there if they wanted to, and the media does only (AKA 99%)

show black people looting stores, but i dont think Bush doesnt like black

people, even if it was true, he wouldnt helped just as much to show the world

hes doing a good job as president...note, Myers face at the end is priceless

and then Tuckers rolling his eyes... laugh.gif

(note: i do not like West's music rolleyes.gif )

The media does not only show black people looting stores, Foxsy, they also show only black people trying to survive in the streets of N.O.. The Vieux Carré is made of solid buildings that all date back to the 17th and 18th century, and there was little damage done there. The South of the city faced less destruction than the North, on the lake. Problem: the black minority lived mainly on the banks of the lake, in houses that were either nearly completely destroyed or flooded up to the 2nd floor, and while white people from downtown N.O. and south sides of the city could go away shortly after the disaster, black people could not. Of course, this explanation is a bit schematic, but you got the picture. That ws just to say that it's not a choice to show black people looting stores, it's just that there are not many white people left in the northern parts of the city, where the biggest problems occured.

Since the new topic he started is now locked, I'd like to thank "Canada" for his very kind message of compassion. I'd like to add that the French people is really shocked by what happened in the US and wish you the best in your efforts to rebuilding N.O. and the infrastructures of the Sates that were hit by Katrina. Our thoughts and prayers go to the victims of this tragedy and to their families.
