Crash on startup (Windows 10)

Featured Replies

So the situation is:

I downloaded Nolf1 and 2 from http://nolfrevival.tk/

first game ran fine and I finished it (it was great), but the second game crashes immediately on startup. It's just a black screen. So since I was out of ideas, I tried running it with dgVoodoo just in case, as some people here seem to recommend.  With dgVoodoo, I'm at least able to get an error message to pop up, which reads:

"ERROR in CGlobalClientmgr::Init()

Error: 606336218:0

d3d8.dll (pointing to the new dll)

any ideas? I want to finish the sequel 😖

I'm not familiar with the current package that is offered on their site.

That being said the dll that is causing issue is related to Direct X.

Typically means there are corrupt Direct X files, or the Direct X files needed by NOLF 2 are missing.

I would start by downloading the Microsoft Direct X End-User Runtime from HERE.

the nolfrevival version seems to include everything except the Modernizer, so I downloaded that as well.

Anyway, I narrowed down the issue to being audio related. I can launch the game and enter a solo multiplayer lobby as long as I have "Disable sound" ticked in the advanced options within the launcher. I feel like I'm probably close to figuring it out, but we'll see.
