Eliteone Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 This should help you Runner Error. Invalid backweb application id 137903. What does this mean and how do you get rid of it? BackWeb is a generic downloading tool used by various software companies that incorporate it to download data such as product updates. BackWeb is capable of collecting information from your PC and delivering it to the collection site. Whenever you connect to the Internet, BackWeb also connects to retrieve advertisements, which are then displayed on your browser as popups. Here's how to get rid of it: Try uninstalling using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. If there does not appear to be an uninstall program, try C:\program files\BackWeb\ and remove this directory. Run MSCONFIG (Start, Run, type MSCONFIG), check the Startup tab and disable anything related to BackWeb. Look for any .EXE file starting with BackWeb and delete it. You can also download Spybot Search & Destroy spybot download to clean it. Quote

Leesy Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 Backweb is a bit of spy/adware so you want to get rid of that. Little info: http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintas...ibrary/backWeb/ Tools to get rid of spyware: Ad-Aware Spybot: S&D Those tools tend to work better in Safe Mode so it's best to run it in that. Let me know if you don't know how to get in Safe Mode, Jojo. If one of those two don't catch it (which they should) - turn it off for now. Do that by: Click on Start >> Run Type in msconfig and press enter Move to the startup tab, find backweb in that list and uncheck the box to the left of it Let me know if that doesn't work. Quote
Eliteone Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 To expand on what Leesy said after you download Adaware After installing AAW, and before running the program, FIRST update the reference file following these instructions. Now do the following: - Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine: check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning." - Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Cleaning Engine: Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot." Press "Scan Now" - Check option "Use Custom scanning options" - Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan" - Press "Select drives\folders to scan" - Select the active partition which is usually C: Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives... It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys. Click 'Next' again Right-click in that pane and choose "select all" If it finds "bad" files and registry keys, press "Next" again It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK. Finally, close Ad-Aware, and reboot. post a new hijackthis log (the backweb should be gone after this) Quote
