NOLF 2 Windows 10 initializing renderer error

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I have a Windows 10 Optiplex 990

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz

RAM: 16GB

System type: 64-bit operating system, x64 based processor.

Every time I launch NOLF 2, the game gives a message saying:

"A hardware TnL device was unable to be created.

This could be due to either not having DirectX 8.1 installed or not having a hardware TnL capable video card. Both of these are are required to play No One Lives Forever 2 and although you can continue to play the game by pressing OK, please note that it is not officially supported and may result in crashes, lockups, and poor performance."

That message is then immediately followed by:

"Error initializing renderer. In order to play No One Lives Forever 2 you must have DirectX8.1 installed."

The launcher loads perfectly.

Can anyone help out with this?

Depending on the model of the Intel graphics it may not have the T & L hardware support NOLF 2 is looking for.

If you have the model of the Intel graphics it can be looked up to see.

If I needed to buy a different graphics card specifically with TnL hardware, which do you think would be the best choice for the computer with my specs?

Most Nvidia or AMD cards have the t & l hardware support.

Would depend on what other games you play.  Current games typically require cards with more video memory etc.

Intel graphics are onboard graphic solutions. They are used primarily on business machines.

Add-in cards are more specific to graphical needs such as gaming.

What would be the best affordable Nvidia or AMD graphics card for a computer with my current specifications?

If I were to get a different graphics card and it fixed this issue with NOLF2, then this thread will have an answer for others with my problem.

To run Nolf any of the Geoforce cards would work (Example a 730 GT Nvidia card)  You're computer has a 2nd generation i5-2400 CPU.  So I'd recommend running the example card above.

Okay, I will find one of that kind and let you know if the game works.

Thank you so much for your help!

Seems like your computer might have a low profile PCIe slot, so  the selection of available cards is more limited.

You might not want a power hungy graphic card since PSU is only 250w or 265w, so the model Eliteone mentioned is a good option since they are often low profile, consumes little power and are less expensive.

Geforce cards usually runs nolf without issues.

This isn't a awesome graphic card in any way and will not run new games all that well, but still a lot better than the intel chip. The low profile grahic cards seems to be available as GT 1030, GTX 1050 and GTX 1650 If you plan on running newer games, but they cost more ofcourse and we're talking about 70-90w extra power drain from the PSU with the GTX 1650 while GT 1030/GT 730 draws around 30-40w. So be careful with that.

Even the GT 1030 recommends a 300w PSU..

Cool, I'll see what I can find cheap on the market.

My only goal is just to get NOLF 2 to work.

Thank you guys!
