Factor Posted June 30, 2005 Share Posted June 30, 2005 what we should do, is get a pay-pal account for unityhq. and then get 2 DM and 2 DD servers, and 1 TDM i think the community could pool enough to pull that off, the reason i say 2 DD and 2 DM is we could get 1 DD and 1 DM hosted in europe for them and then 1 DD and 1 DM hosted in Texas so its equal ground for americans, and then the TDM can be NY for everyone i dunno, just throwin the idea out, and i will probably provide some $$$ for this cause Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Belladonna Posted June 30, 2005 Share Posted June 30, 2005 I'd love to get a bunch of servers up for Unity but I'm just not confidant that everyone would contribute on a regular basis and I don't want to get stuck with a huge bill every month (like eliteone frequently does). Eventually I'll probably have to fork over more $$$ as the website grows so I have that to consider too. Ideally, I'd like there to be a permanent DeathMatch server for NOLF1, NOLF2 & CJ, then another one for special events, but that takes cash and connections, which I'm still working on getting. Right now Eliteone is running the current servers for Unity off her own box as a big favor to me and the community. There isn't room for more, though. I'm hoping she'll be able to arrange something with the new owners of the former NYC server that will allow for more servers that won't cost gobs of money. A Paypal logo/link will be on the Unity website eventually or you can just use my email to send funds for Unity - belladonna@unityhq.net Any donations will be used to pay for current servers and website costs. Its kinda weird that you are unhappy with a 54 ping, when most people's are over 100, ON AVERAGE. Almost everyone would be VERY happy with a 54 ping, yet you are unhappy with it. And we'll need that every month. And that's just hosting them in the US. I can't find any european hosts where I can host NOLF cheaply. For hosting over here you're looking at £49 a month per server. I just don't see us getting that kind of money. It must admit we might do it for a month or two but we would be talking a continous flow of cash. Leesy Posted July 1, 2005 Share Posted July 1, 2005 Another problem is that in the end I can see the majority of this funding for the extra servers coming from the "older" NOLF players. Most of the younger players, students etc. are pretty pushed for cash and might not be able to afford a £15 a month. True that's not much but when you have student debts etc. it all adds up. So it would come to those that can afford to pay it - those will full time, well paying jobs. And it's not fair too place this responsiblity on one set of people.
