rudy Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 One simple question: Then why don't you guys continue it here? This IS the largest NOLF community afterall, and you're part of an even bigger Sierra community whom you can share the message with aswell. Just my 2 cents. Continue it here and share it with the other Sierra Gateway boards, you could quadrupple the votes. Quote
rudy Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 At your service . Will make an announcement in the next monthly Sierra Chest Newsletter aswell. Quote
kepler Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 There is something that might be more effective than a petition, and that would be a business plan. Some of the people on here are pretty impressive in their ability to create mods and maps. Others seem to have a pretty good grip on the corporate structure of the various game developers. Write a proposition for what NOLF3 would be. Consider other games and their innovations in the past years. Should NOLF3 avoid cut-scenes in the manner of Half-Life? What might the plot be? Spin a sales-pitch on the potential popularity of NOLF. It is not gorey or overly scary like most games; it has a female protaganist; it is more problem solving and humor than it is killing, but it is STILL action-oriented. Come up with a concept, and then generate the numbers for sales based on previous NOLF sales and current sales of similar games. Do a big chunk of the work in just getting the ball rolling. Stop and consider: how many people bought NOLF and NOLF2? How many buy FEAR, HL2, Resident Evil, etc. etc. Now, how many names are on that petition? The petition really won't show a number of names that has anything to do with the market. However, a properly spun concept, marketed well, has promise. Write it up nicely and send it to competing developers, and THEN see what happens. You might not just get a bidding war, you might just get your NOLF3. Quote

rudy Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 You're welcome. Changed the subtitle under the banner a tad. Wasn't sure if Contract J.A.C.K. was counted as number 3 or not. Quote
rudy Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 (edited) It's now also in the Sierra Chest newsletter, issue 2, released a week ago. Here's hoping the petition can cross the 5,000 mark. Edited May 13, 2009 by rudy Quote

CANADA Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) To The "NOLF Community", The "NOLF4EVER.com" Petition website is now closed. Final "NOLF 3" Petition Total: (5,260 Signatures). Many thanks to all of those people who took the time to sign the petition, and also to all of those people who helped. The petition itself has been given to someone special, who is going to make sure that it gets to the right people. So the petition is on it's way, hehe. Of course I hope it helps but unfortunately 5,260 is most likely not going to encourage any new NOLF games. Some reason I thought that you had more signatures than that. Quote
CANADA Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 (edited) Hi "E1", If we were talking about "Half-Life" or "Star Trek", or even "Star Wars" games, then yes I would agree that this is a very small number of signatures considering how many people are in those communities. However, if you look at the petition numbers based on the fact of per capita for "NOLF" compared to those others I mentioned, and the fact that the "NOLF" games received no advertising or promotion at all. Then those numbers are significant. As far as whether those numbers will trigger another adventure in the "NOLF Series", I don't know if it will or not. However, the petition was based on the fact that if we at least tried we would have nothing to lose, and if we didn't try at all we would have never known. So it was better for us to do a petition then to not do a petition at all. A positive attitude don't you think, which is much better then expressing a negative attitude don't you think. Think positive with a positive frame of mind and positive things will happen, think with a negative frame of mind and negative things will happen. Let us all believe that there will be a "NOLF 3", and that soon we will be joining Cate for any round of adventure in the very near future, hehe. Like I previously said I hope it has a impact however realistically given the costs for a company to develop a game (payroll, R & D etc) a guarantee that on a little over 5000 people (assuming everyone would actually purchase the game at a retail price of $49.99) only give them a projected revenue of under $250000 and only 500 units sold. Yes the gaming industry is about making a profit these days as they have investors who expect a positive return on the money they put towards a project. Unless you and those who signed the petition were willing to front them the monies so they weren't using their investors money then you'd have a shot. Ideally a game needs to sell at least 200000 units plus (I'm low balling this most likely) as when you read game reports they talk about disappointing sales for anything under 500000 units sold. Bargain or reduced clearance prices don't count. Given the reorganization of the gaming industry too I am being skeptical for obvious reasons (they wouldn't even allow the fans of the game to take over the master server for NOLF2) which means out of your 5000 or so signatures a fair amount of those have moved on to other games and may not commit to purchasing another NOLF title at this point. Just food for thought. I of course will keep good thoughts about the petition and I hope that someone of the "powers that be" pay it some more than passing attention, even if they just allow us to host a master server for NOLF2 at least. *PNX* sUXN Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 And, folks? Any response from monolith yet? Same question here... Quote

Eliteone Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 I guess the silense means no reply was received from Monolith? I haven't heard anything so I'd assume there wasn't a response or else someone involved would have said something. Quote
CANADA Posted December 21, 2009 Author Posted December 21, 2009 (edited) To My Fellow "NOLFer's", I spoke to Chris recently, however at this time there is nothing new to report. That doesn't mean it won't happen, it just means that the petition was given to someone very high up at Monolith, and at this time we have not heard anything back yet. I would suggest that we do not give up yet, as there is always hope. Everyone is very busy right now, trying to recover from the financial breakdown that happened all over the world. NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER !!!
