FAQ: Join by IP tool

People keep asking me some questions... So I decided to make this FAQ:

 

Can I add my own IPs to the tool?

Answer:

There are two ways of adding IPs: First and easiest way is to ask me to add your IP to my FTP server (wich is the default server for the IP tool).

As an alternative you can host your own .txt files with your IP. There is no tutorial yet on how to do this, but I created a tool for it which should be rather easy to use.

It can be downloaded here (Screenshot).

Of course there is also the possibility to enter custom IPs in the IP tool... so if you host a server you could just ask your friend to enter your IP there and he can join.

Maybe I'll update the IP Tool so everyone can add his IP to my server, but I think that function might get abused by some people so I'm not sure yet.

 

 

What's the difference between .bat files and the IP tool?

Answer:

Actually there is no difference... They both work the same way: They just start NOLF2 with the IP you entered or selected.

The only difference is that the IP tool maybe is easier to use as you don't have to create a batch file for every server.

 

 

Do I have to install the LivesForever mod to use the IP tool?

Answer:

No and yes. The LivesForever mod by El Zero was created to bypass the CD-Key verification.

The IP tool would work without this mod, but as the master server is down, you will get an "Invalid CD-Key" message, when you try to enter an internet server without the mod.

The web address http://sficlan.net/nolf2servers/tmp received information for the SFI and UHQ servers each time they are started and stopped.

 

The servers add themselves to the list by using the modified nolf2server.exe file that URA made and a database setup on our host to manage it.

 

This basically means the url list will always have up to date info on the SFI and UHQ servers. If you would like to have a server report to the URL then drop me a PM and I'll assist you with setting it up.

 

Sasser's list will work too but if I understand it correctly he has to manually update the list.

For connection with a server I also use free-of-charge service programs “ GameSpy Arcade ” http://www.gamespyarcade.com and “Xfire” http://www.xfire.com/downloads

It will be easier for players, I think.

Server {SFI}, =NS =, *PNX* have big ping (more than 200) for me.

How I can make the dedicated server for Internet now? (after 11/03/2008 I can make only LAN a server!)

I hope, that URA, ElZerro, SAssER will make a full patch for multiplayer NOLF2 in the future!

Use the livesforever mod and run the server as a dedicated one. The way to run a dedicated server is still the same
