Spacko Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 I remember a topic way back when in ST that I found very interesting and telling of those who replied. The concept was: Here are 10 factors/priorities/interests that are present in most our lives; now prioritize them according to how important they are to you and how much time and effort you devote to each. My education or my job My finances and material possessions My religion My spouse/partner My children My other relatives My friends My hobbies (music, movies, travelling, fishing, whatever) My own happiness My ideology and political views Quote
ONYX Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 I can't find "Playing NOLF" Is this list right? PS. I need to think about this hmmmmm Quote

HowitzerAL Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I imagine this list will vary depending on ones age, marital status and the likes...My list is as follows.... My children My spouse/partner My other relatives My friends My education or my job My finances and material possessions My own happiness My hobbies (music, movies, traveling, fishing, whatever) My religion My ideology and political views 20 years ago, this list would have been MUCH different...At the risk of sounding like a preacher, but as you get older, your priorities change, or intensify.....Coming from a big family (My maternal Grandmother was one of 12 & my Father was one of 11 - and I am from a family with 6 kids) Family has always been important to me, since it was a constant growing up... One final thought - Be kind to your children - after all, they will determine what "old-folks" home you will live in Quote
[FF5]Knix Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 You know you've been a community a long time, when you recognize a topic from 2 years ago Think this was back in [sT] dayz...wonder what I put then...anyhow..(cracks Knuckles) My children My spouse/partner My other relatives My finances and material possessions My education or my job My own happiness My friends My hobbies (music, movies, traveling, fishing, whatever) My ideology and political views My religion Religion is last not due to any atheistic belief, just that I never practiced a specific religion whole heartedly. My friends are my friends, and the ones I have will be my friends for life. I don't have as much time (as I know have a family, and NOLF ) to hang out as much as I used to, but they know i'm there for them and vice-versa. I always have had a pre-occupation with being financially secure. Probably an unhealthy one. It's a constant fight to live in the present, and not always thinking about what will happen a year from now, or 10 years. Nice re-topic Spacko...hadn't thought about this one in a while! Quote
Spacko Posted April 6, 2006 Author Posted April 6, 2006 Independent' date='Apr 6 2006, 01:23 AM' post='46480'] 1 My children 2 My own happiness 3 My education or my job 4 My ideology and political views 5 My religion 6 My other relatives 7 My friends 8 My hobbies (music, movies, travelling, fishing, whatever) 9 My spouse/partner 10 My finances and material possessions Who else will be that brutally honest? Is that your list in your order, Spacko? Yow, that is brutally honest. And no, that was just me listing 10 options. Thought I'd wait a little bit with mine. In fact let me try to do this right now: 1. My hobbies (music, movies, travelling, fishing, whatever) 2. My own happiness 3. My other relatives 4. My work or education 5. My finances and material possessions 6. My friends 7. My ideology and political views (Of the last three I have neither (yet), so they're not really part of my list) 8. My religion 9. My spouse/partner 10. My children Not so brutal I suppose, but I feel it's pretty honest. I'm a lone wolf and I live mainly for myself this far in life. Quote
Belladonna Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I ended up having to break it down in two different ways. One in order of how much time and effort I spend on them and the other as to how much I value their importance. You'd think they should allign, but they don't for me, I spend way too much time doing things that I hold no major importance for. Time and effort spent: My children My spouse/partner My hobbies (NOLF) My ideology and political views My finances and material possessions My other relatives My own happiness My religion My friends My education or my job Order of importance to me: My children My spouse/partner My religion My other relatives My ideology and political views My own happiness My finances and material possessions My hobbies (music, movies, travelling, fishing, whatever) My education or my job My friends Before you think me uncaring of friends, I simply don't have any (who aren't online). I married my best friend, we moved away from all my childhood friends, we don't socialize, and I'm too picky about who I let into my inner circle so it's quiet around here. It's rather sad how important I consider religion yet I spend no real time on it. That's the problem with knowing you can always ask forgiveness, you tend to abuse it some. Quote
Natter Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 My spouse/partner My children My other relatives My hobbies (music, movies, travelling, fishing, whatever) My religion My own happiness My education or my job My finances and material possessions My ideology and political views My friends My partner comes before the children bcs we are together the whole life... and hopeful we still together when childs away....live their own lifes... also no friends here...same reason....they far away...far in the past Quote
HowitzerAL Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I don't know, I must be wierd....I still hang out with my friends since childhood..They have been my best friends for the last 35 years...since I've been 6 years old - I'm 41 for those of you with math problems I suppose it helps that I bought a house 4 miles form the one I grew up in....But every year we all still go away on vacations together - we rent a ski house in Vermont, 10 family house, and its all me and my friends....and for the last 3 years, I go to the Jersey Shore inJuly with 3 of those families.. I consider them as close to me as my own family.... I guess thats why I had them high up on my list.... Quote
Factor Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 ok, the real order of what i dedicate my most time to goes like this... My friends My education or my job My finances and material possessions My religion My hobbies (music, movies, travelling, fishing, whatever) My own happiness My spouse/partner My other relatives My children My ideology and political views Where i would LIKE it to be... My religion My friends My education or my job My own happiness My hobbies (music, movies, travelling, fishing, whatever) My other relatives My spouse/partner My finances and material possessions My children My ideology and political views obviously children are near the bottom for me, cuz i dont have any yet. and my political views and stuff are last, cuz i really hate politics and could care less... my finances and material possesions are really high for me in my life, but i dont want them to be, b/c they shouldnt. i should be throwing God and my religion higher on my list, and making a few things less to me... but i am a strong believe in friends and family. Friends are probably the greatest thing someone can have, so they will always be really high on all of my lists. Quote
