[FF5]Knix
My great-grandpa also died somewhere under Kursk. And if not UK and USA Whole europe would be speaking russian. and what exactly is incorrect in my post, Knix? Tell me so that i could find it out... I don't want to offend anyone and i don't say that only the country that doesn't even exist now won the war. Allies were a lot of help, but they joined in when victory was just a matter of time. Not that it matters but you said 40 million Soviets died... Actual official total is 23.1 million for a total deaths per 1,000 people of 137.1 Poland in comparrison had a total deaths per 1,000 people of 160.9. Does this mean that Poland deserves more credit/sympathy then the CCCP? This whole argument is rediculous. You facts are not only wrong, but make no sense. Seemann
I'll explain. If to talk plain figures, Most of the war took place on ussr territory, most german forces were destroyed on ussr's territory and because of all that, yes i think USSR deserves more gratitude. It's not abouthow many people died, it's about how many enemies were killed. The Madman could 'blizkrieg' some other countries first, and if that country would stop him, it would deserve more gratefulness. But no country had conditions to stop The Madman, only USSR and USA had enough power, but usa wasn't appropriate because of geographical position. Who entered Berlin btw? And in russia the OFFIIAL death-counts vary from 40 to 60 million people dead. I dunno whoose counts are more accurate though. maybe both are wrong. HowitzerAL
Who entered Berlin btw? Are you kidding me? ANY person who knows history, knows that this was one of the biggest battles Patton and Montgomery had....It was decided that the Russians be allowed to enter Berlin......The U.S. AND England were both there first... Hey Seemann...Just curious....Is the Russian version of WWII filed under fiction, or non-fiction? Because the way you seem to remember what happened is a stark contrast to how the rest of the world remembers things....
Seemann
Hey man, is it written in your textbook? It's insanity. You seem to be so sure of these facts. Have you ever heared of reichstag assault? And how can you say for ALL THE WORLD?

[FF5]Knix
So you are suggesting that German and Russian sites would have accurate numbers? I don't speak either language. If you could post a site that may offer your numbers is may be helpfull.
Seemann
But you don't speak either language. And i don't really mean that these or that numbers are correct. All russian sites give 40 mil. I mean ALL. And anyway even with 20 million SU always opens the deathlist. And USSR Soldiers didn't have rifles made of sticks. And in my f***n textbook for 9th grade it' s written that it's 40 million. Would you bet on that it's incorrect? i don't mean that i'm yet in 9th grade. this is just the only schoolbook on history left.

Don't need to speak either language to do so. Any German NOlfers find a site showing the info, please feel free to post. Danke
Seemann
Since the reason why I started speaking about all of that was to find out if everyone really think that USA dominated, i think a poll is the best way.

[FF5]Knix
Who said that about Russia? Lemme guess...da Swede:P I have nothing against Russia. As I mentioned, I've was there back in '88. Stood on line for 3 hours to see Lenin (no Foxsy not John Lennon). I haggled over a Soviet flag in the shadows of the Hermitage museum in (then) Leningrad. I paid $20.00 to 1 rubble on the official Russian exchange. I also got 2,000 ruble for $100 from my waiter at dinner that night. I ate meat that was nasty, but ice cream that was the best i've ever had. yadda yadda yadda

Alexa
This discussion may be off-topic, and I don't see neither the relevance nor the connection between war deaths and contribution in the war, nevertheless a German site: War casualities WW2 Insgesamt -> total The sites I have seen seem to talk about 20-30 million losses. The true number MAY be higher, since no country especially the SU was to keen to count in the aftermath of WW2. By the way I never understood the hatred of the USA against the French, which in fact had the strongest resistance vs. the Nazis. Seems there are still urban legends floating around about them. Funny since quite a number of countries held parades while Hitler marched in. And having a different opinion (or even different facts) than the USA is neither a crime nor ungratefulness (yep, I'm talking about Iraq again). Seemann
I admire the resistance and general DeGaul, but due to occupation, France couldn't be a real help to the allies.

[TNT] Sonic Goo
Do you ever get the feeling, when you return, that someone has moved the furniture?
[FF5]Knix
yeah we used to do that in college all the time. Break into a neighbors house (All the students rented beach houses where I went to school), re-arrange all the furniture(clear our a room, and stuff everything into one bedroom), turn on all the faucets, televisions, and appliances, peanut butter the phones and door knobs, and celophane the toilet seats. But much like my post...whats your point Goo?
