I happened to be prowling through insidemacgames.com on the Wayback Machine, and I came across some NOLF wallpapers by Brad Custer from back in the day. Nothing extraordinary, but much greater variety of sizes for the modern desktop compared to what was released for Windows by Fox Interactive or Sierra.

The NOLF2 fan site kit is hosted here on UnityHQ:
http://unityhq.net/forums/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=51
I was able to get the NOLF logo from a 1280x1024 official bitmap wallpaper fairly easily. It's 471x319 pixels with a transparent background, although it can be cropped a bit smaller. PM me an email address, and I will send the GIMP .xcf file (in case you want to edit it) and a .png export.
-
The Fan Site Kit (si_nolf2_fansitekit.zip) for NOLF2 has what you need for that game. In the "logos" folder there is a logo graphic with transparent background (logo-nolf2.psd) that is 2291x505 pixels. This should be on the DVD I sent you a while back. As Eliteone indicated, you should be able to use Photoshop or GIMP or some editing program to make the necessary conversion.
I am not aware of a fan site kit for NOLF, so I would suggest trying to cut what you need from some wallpaper.

Using Microsoft's so-called 'fix' for known mouse lag issues
What exactly are you referring to by this "fix"?
Microsoft now has a number of fixes for mouse/pointer issues in Windows 8.1 specifically:
Mouse pointer stutters or freezes when you play certain games in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2908279
Mouse input in some games is incorrectly scaled on high-DPI devices
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2907016
Button clicks for internal touchpads and pointing sticks are not responsive while or shortly after the keyboard is used
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2907018
Note that the first fix CAN be extended to apply to games other than the ones currently supported by the update rollup through registry manipulation, so proceed with caution.
-
Thanks for uploading the mods. I know a lot of folks will be happy to have access to them again.
Eliteone should have the Alpha 9.2 release that I sent and will hopefully have it uploaded soon.
-
This behavior is normal. Both the original NOLF and the GotY releases have CD checks in all versions. This may hold the answer to your question, but I'm not sure off-hand which release it applies to:
http://unityhq.net/forums/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=52
(Eliteone beat me to the punch.)
-
Just to make sure we are on the same page, I wanted to point out that this is a later release (9.2) of the Kittycat Alpha mod, but it isn't the last. URA released a 9.3 version as described here:
http://ura.exofire.net/index.php?site=news_comments&newsID=25
This page indicates that there is at least one bugfix in 9.3, and I have no idea what bug is fixed. The page also indicates that the 9.3 version had the filename KittycatA9-3-DL.exe, so search your hard drives and archives for it.
URA's forum indicates that Version 11 revisions of the mod were also in circulation as well.
I would suggest that folks send in ANY other versions of the mod they can lay their hands on.
-
I have a copy of Kittycat Alpha 9.2. It's 20.5 MB. If Eliteone will tell me the best way to get it to her, I will send her a copy.

I don't normally try to run games on my laptops, but since I have a couple that are similar to Billy's, I decided to install NOLF and see if I got similar results. I installed the GotY version of the game on the following two laptops:
Dell Inspiron N5110, Win7 Home Premium 64-bit, Intel Core i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10 GHz, Intel HD 3000 Graphics, 6 GB Memory
Gateway NE56R12u, Win8 Professional 64-bit, Intel Pentium B950 2.10 GHz, Intel HD 2000 Graphics, 4 GB Memory
I get the same graphical issue reported by rngbeastx in this thread (with photo):
http://sficlan.net/Unityhq/forums/forums/index.php?showtopic=3643
Billy can confirm whether this is the same graphical corruption he sees.
Note that rngbeastx has a laptop with dual display drivers, and he apparently had the same issue with both an Intel and NVIDIA chipset (he switched renderers). The OP in this thread had an ATI chipset. So this is not an issue specific to a single graphics manufacturer. All these problem reports apparently have the following in common:
64-bit Windows (7 or 8) on a laptop.
I installed NOLF GotYon a Compaq CQ5110F Win7 Home Premium 32-bit desktop machine with an AMD Athlon x2 7550 64-bit processor and an NVIDIA GeForce 210 card installed, and did NOT have this graphics issue. So the issue is not peculiar to Win7/Win8 in general. It would be interesting to see if somebody with a 64-bit Win7 or Win8 desktop is also having this issue (I don't have one).
I have to wonder if this is possibly a (64-bit) DirectX issue or some by-product of Microsoft's heavy-handed policies on 64-bit drivers (for laptops and possbily also for desktop machines).
-
That's processor (CPU) was looking for what it is using for video.
Actually, in indicating the CPU, Billy was also telling you the graphics chipset since this particular Intel CPU has on-chip graphics (Intel® HD Graphics 3000):
http://ark.intel.com/products/53438/
(Unless the laptop manufacturer decided to add a stand-alone graphics chipset)

See this thread for sites:

In particular, the (Old) SparedLife site seems to have some accessible skins via the Wayback Machine. The Wayback Machine has been reporting that a number of NOLF sites are on servers that are currently down for some reason, and there is no telling when they will be accessible again, so you may have to be patient.
If you want to do your own skinning, you may find some accessible tutorials on some of the Development and Editing sites as well.
Good hunting!

Yeah, I can hear the camera breaking just thinking about it.

Love the theme! Great work!

They say to "upload a basic self-portrait or a photo of your best 007 pose." Perhaps we should be submitting our best Cate Archer pose. See if 007 can stand the competition.
Hmmmm.....

There are a number of NOLF editing resources listed in this thread:
http://sficlan.net/U...?showtopic=2805
Note that many of these sites no longer exist, but some are still accessible in the Wayback Machine (a link is given in the thread), and some ARE still available in today's web.
Also, keep in mind that DEDIT was used by Monolith for a number of games, and some useful resources may also be available for these other games created by Monolith at about the same time as NOLF 2. Aliens vs. Predator 2 and TRON 2.0 are two likely candidates that come to mind. Here is one example for TRON 2.0 (if you already have DEDIT set up, then you may want to go ahead to Part 2 of this particular tutorial):
Here is another example for AvP 2 (note the topics along the left side of the page):
http://www.planetavp.../howtoskin.html
Note that while there ARE differences in the various versions of DEDIT used in these different games, there are many similarities which can help you grasp the basic editing concepts behind DEDIT.
One important point to emphasize is that all of the tutorial creators stress the need for patience and a willingness to master the various tools (including, but not limited to DEDIT). The fact that many of the NOLF2 specific sites are gone is going to make your task even more difficult, but there are still a lot of resources available IF you are willing to do the research.
Good luck!

IGN has indicated that FilePlanet is being archived and will eventually disappear, so grab their NOLF series downloads while you can:

This NOLF2 DD map by [TNT]Sonic Goo is apparently what you are after:
http://sficlan.net/U...p?showtopic=403
The beta is still available here (no sign-up necesary):
http://www.fileplane...ong-Kong---Beta
Don't know if it made it past the beta stage.

I was able to directly install and play the game on a Dell Inspiron N5110 Laptop (Intel Core i3, Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 64-bit) with no issues. The installer indicates Game of the Year Edition prominently, so it is different from the installer for the original release. The game installs as Version 1.004 from the CDs.

Your guess about "reset player history" sounds right to me. If it doesn't seem to do anything, then it is probably one of the developer/tester codes that won't work without using the developer version of the LithTech engine or a mod in the retail version like mpclip.
-
Blaukanal and Eliteone, thanks!
Igemma, I dumped the Version 1.003 NOLF source code last night, and I did find one reference to the mpwhoami cheat. However, a comment in the code (filename is MessageMgr.cpp) )indicates that it is supposed to "reset player history" rather than convey invisibility. So you might see if it actually does that.
Also, when you look at the cheat codes for other (later) LithTech engine games, it is pretty obvious that the LithTech and game developers would commonly leave codes used in earlier versions or other versions of the engine in place, but would not necessarily implement any action when the code is entered. Also, some codes were designed to work only for developers/testers as Dan noted in the comment I quoted above. You can see what I am talking about on this page which lists cheat codes for Tron 2.0:
-
I second the request. Also, see if you have Spectator.zip on your system, because that is probably where you got the spectator.rez file.
I found a thread relating to the original release of Dan's Spectator Mod with a very interesting comment by Dan:
The specator mode in NOLF is actually an option in the engine - it still has bugs because its impossible to get to it (no source). The specator mode was never designed to be for the player - its a developer/tester option. This comment was made 9 February 2003, well after the release of source and tools for the game.
-
According to UbaS site, "mpclip only works if the spectator mode is running on that server/in your game" and it "Requires Spectator.rez in order to use":
http://nolfers-hut.5.../cheatcodes.htm
This is apparently a reference to Dan's Spectator Mod for NOLF1. There is also a similar mod for NOLF2 (available at UnityHQ, I think). I have no idea where to get the NOLF1 Spectator Mod, but would like to find it myself.
Don't know about mpwhoami, but it may require the Spectator mod as well.

While UnityHQ has a Links page with links to current NOLF-related sites, sometimes it is convenient to have a larger list of sites, for instance when one is doing research in the Wayback Machine ( http://archive.org/ ). The list below is an attempt to give someone doing such research a foothold or starting point with regard to the NOLF series of games. The list is categorized, but sites frequently do not fit neatly into such pigeon-holes, so don't be surprised if some of the map sites have developer tutorials or the clan sites have maps or map packs, etc. I may have also made a mistake or two in the categorizing as well.
I don't claim the list is comprehensive, and no slight is intend by any omissions. If you know of additional sites, please add them to the thread. Many of the sites no longer exist. Some are still accessible through the Wayback Machine, and some are not accessible at all. Some sites still exist, but don't necessarily have the NOLF content they had in the past.
Good luck in your research!

I believe it is a reference to Ura's LivesForeverPlus Mod as discussed here:

Unfortunately, Ura's site is not allowing downloads just now. The original filename for the mod is LivesForeverPlus.exe.

Client MFC Crash Solution (for some users)
in NOLF1 Technical Help
Posted
Swaaye, a moderator at Very Old Games on New Systems (http://www.vogons.org), just posted a fix for the dread Client MFC crash on Aliens vs. Predator 2 which he reports also works on NOLF (1 I presume) when the issue occurs on a Microsoft Surface 4 (Win 10 x64) machine. The solution involves using a WinXP DirectInput DLL in the game folder. More details and a copy of the .dll here:
http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=42686#p570987
I have no idea if it works in other circumstances, but it might be worth a try for other users affected by the Client MFC issue on recent Microsoft OSes.
