I dust off my old Windows XP computer ...
The very first version of the MODERNIZER mod from Jake runs on Windows XP, it's called "Lithfixb mod"
There is no music box and multiplayer, but a fix for the mouse and screen works and there is also support for a wide screen.

I installed Nolf2 (official 2 CD) on Windows 10 Enterprise x64 LTSE 1809 and also got this "Catastrophic failure" error ...

Unfortunately, the official German version of NOLF2 has bugs:
1. Blood is turned off in combat scenes.
2. There are 43 sound wav-files missing in the voice acting.
Use the patch (fix) Nolf2_GUI_1_16.zip (35.8 Mb). It contains "No-CD" and removes censorship in the German version.
This fix is only installed on version 1.3

Bugs & Solutions

1. After installing the WideScreenFix_CJ fix do not open the Display menu and do not change the display resolution through the game menu, otherwise, geometric distortion will occur on the screen.
If you accidentally open the display menu and change the display resolution through the game menu, then exit the game using the "Esc" or "Alt-F4" keys and then re-enter the game.2. Graphics distortion on the screen, FPS drops, the game freezes.
Typically, such a bug occurs on NVIDIA graphics cards after a powerful lighting flash effect, such as an explosion.

The dinput.dll file provides keyboard and mouse controls for older games.Dinput.dll versions in the archive:

"Lithfixb mod" is not a good solution. MODERNIZER is much better, of course.
If you delete the OBJECT.LTO file from the MODERNIZER.REZ mod then you can load the level and go through several missions, but then the game will still crash.
I removed OBJECT.LTO from MODERNIZER.REZ mod. You can download this “test mod” and install on Windows XP
