  1. Yo,

is it possible to force the game to adopt a widescreen resolution?

I tried changing the defaults.cfg but that didn't really help :(

I think the Field of View is hard coded in the game. Even if you changed the resolution the resulting image wouldn't be right.

By the way, you can do this for Nolf 2 by looking here and here, but you need to tinker some.

  2. If Sierra stops the support....

think there's no more need respect the copyright!!!

They sold the game with MP-support...

Now they make a breach of the contract!!!

    1) What contract was breached? (A license agreement is not the same thing.)

    2) Just where in any of the written matter included with the game did Sierra indicate that they would run a master server in perpetuity?

(I agree, the master server issues are a royal pain, but let's not veer off into cloud-cuckoo land.)

[...] - but the question remains, can we make our own master server or just bypass the one on the fritz?

It could be technically done, but you would need to patch/mod the game to look for a master server in a new location. That would break things for anyone using Gamespy, etc. to find games. The bigger issue would be getting people to use the patch/mod.

  3. my bad, the royale_noir is the theme that was leaked, not the zunes theme. the link i originally downloaded from doesn't work anymore

Do a Google search for "Royale Windows XP Theme" and you'll find a number of reputable links. :)

Edit: Oops, that's how to find the publicly released blue Royale theme. I didn't know a Royale Noir theme existed.

  4. As long as there is leaning, there will be leaners.

As long as there is phos, there will be people who over use it.

Same for rockets and explosive ammo.

They are part of the game. Deal with it. No matter how much you want it, there is no honor among online gamers :P .

I feel old. I remember these type of arguments ("quad scum!") in Quake. As long as an item was put in the game by the designers I'm cool with people using it. I prefer not to be on the receiving end ;), but I'm not going to 'witch'. (And if you don't like people using something against you, just pick it up and move on. Denying resources to your enemy is a fair tactic.)

When it comes to things the designers didn't see or intend, well that's a grey area. (I'm not talking about exploits such as wall hacks, etc..) You see, I always try to keep in mind that rocket jumps weren't intended by id, but look at all the games that support rocket jumps now. Or the crazy speeds people could get up to with bunnyhopping in QuakeWorld.

  5. But I do wish we could all agree to play DD the old-fashioned way - I think that would bring much fun and nerve to the leisure play.

Is the problem that a chunk people who wish to play a straight game of team deathmatch are on the doomsday servers because more people play doomsday[1]? It seems because of the small community size there's only enough people at any one time playing to support one team-based Nolf 2 gametype.

[1] Or do people just go to doomsday since it is tedious to check various modes of gameplay via the game server browser?

  6. Btw how do you know my connection?

http://www.danasoft.com/ does image based sigs. When you browse the page with that image the image is created with your specific information. Your browser provides a User-Agent and an IP address so that the image can get back to you. Danasoft just embeds your IP and User-Agent in the image.

Oh yeah, seeman if your looking for a console that can be connected to the Internet then, you should go for xbox or xbox 360. Only those console can be connected to the Internet, and its called xbox live.

The (dead) Dreamcast, the Playstation 2, Nintendo Gamecube, and the Nintendo DS can all play online. :)

  7. Who can explain me what's the point of consoles? They seem to me like a useless piece of plastic. The only thing u can do on them is play games which, as a purpose, seems strange to me. Besides any console games that i know are crap. The controlings devices are also crap (i don't know, perhaps now they do have a mouse...). Why not just buy PC? U can mod ur games there, etc...

Btw Is there MP on consoles?

Consoles "just work". They let you play games without all the headaches you have with PCs. Also, they historically have been cheaper than PCs. Add to that the fact consoles are usually in the living room with the family TV and you have a more social experience.

Yes, there is multiplayer games on consoles. There is PC-style online multiplayer and the split-screen cooperative multiplayer options. (Depending on the game, of course.)

  8. I tend to prefer my PC. The games I like are better on the PC than what is on a console. That said, I do like handhelds.

Oh, did you know that Call of Duty 3 isn't being done by Infinity Ward? I'm afraid Activision is trying to milk the franchise. Hopefully it will be a good game.

  9.

I was playing Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory the other day on a custom map server. It was a fun surprise when I found myself on a recreation of Hydro. I was wondering if anyone else had an experience like this?

Also, is there a list of maps, skins, mods, etc. of Nolf-based additions for non-Monolith games? If not, add your sightings to this thread. :)

  10. Nolf 1's graphics are fine for the time in which they were created. Yes, they look dated in comparison to Nolf 2 let alone today's high-end games, but they work well.

For me, other than some of the character models looking too polygonally, I like the Nolf 1 graphics. The environments in many cases still feel like real places.

  11. It creates a kind of virtual LAN so it should work with other games, wich don't check for CD-Keys in LAN multiplayer mode too..

It creates a Virtual Private Network which is a good thing. All of your VPN traffic is encrypted and authenticated so no one outside the VPN can it figure out. Hamachi should work with any game, file sharing, etc..

  12. yeah, i was actually looking at the same exact one, fortran and spacko. these tv tuners are much harder to find. so many compatibility issues. it seems like it'll only work with windows xp or windows mce, not both. but the hauppauge one seems to show some promise. its supposed to work on BOTH OS versions.

I haven't worked with the PC-based external units so I don't know too much about them. The one I've looked at is a Mac-only device. I do remember Hauppauge having good reviews for their TV stuff.

  13. I got them all. Now i'd like to know FOR WHAT? I expected a bonus mission or something... no, nothing happened.

Is it supposed to be like that?

It does help you, but it isn't obvious. The rewards at the end of each mission (Victim, ..., SuperSpy) gives you various bonuses to health, armor, ammo, etc..

  14. But didn't the NOLF1 Sniper Rifle automatically kill no matter what too? It's a long time since I last completed that game, however. Anyway, more ideas:

Headshots did with most weapons, but the sniper rifle wasn't an insta-kill weapon. I think the closest thing was the super-atomic laser pistol.

  15. Bow:

Kinda like the Crossbow, except it is GARANTEED to kill no matter where it hits; arm, leg, body, head, wherever, it will certainly kill. The downside is that it takes 15 seconds to reload, and reduces the speed of your movement when wielding it. It cannot use a scope.

Except that is the exact opposite of what a arrow does. Arrows kill by blood loss. :) And from a gaming perspective 'instant-death' weapons aren't fun. They make the game boring.
