Something like the open source NSIS installer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nullsoft_Scriptable_Install_System) could be scripted to do the installation. The wikipedia article mentions that there are plugins that would allow downloading files from a website which would handle the problem of making sure folks got the latest version of the map packs, etc..No, it isn't trivial to do -- otherwise someone would have done it -- but if you (Orion98) want to take a stab at fixing the problem you see here is a possible solution for you to explore.

I guess I've had better luck with Parallels. I do use a Mac Pro with a dedicated graphics card. So that could be the difference I'm seeing from what you are with integrated graphics on your mini.
One of the nice things about Parallels is that I can set the virtual machine to only have one cpu. That tends to make some games *cough*Nolf 2*cough* more stable on my Mac Pro. Between Parallels for Windows apps and Boxer for my older DOS-based games I'm usually set. It is pretty funny that my Mac Pro provides better environments for older non-Mac games than Windows does.
(I've got my old PowerMac G5 if I need to run PPC apps, and I have my home-built Windows box for things that don't respond well to emulation.)

The LivesForever mod prevents you from entering a particular code on those levels. It's a real pain to make it all the way to that point and realize your saves are all tainted (in the single player game). ><
This isn't a complaint against the LivesForever mod. It is more an "I'm an idiot for forgetting to turn that mod off for single player".

I've also had no problem using the PC versions of Nolf 1 and 2 with Parallels Desktop v7 on OS X Lion 10.7 and Mountain Lion 10.8. I used WindowsXP as the operating system so that I would have maximum compatibility with older games. It is a bit overkill and costs money to use Parallels Desktop, but it makes things much smoother if you intend to play more than just the Nolf series of games. (3D graphics performance is one of their selling points.)
I've also messed around with the free VirtualBox software, but the 3D graphics support is experimental and takes more finagling to get going. It works, but you need to be willing to tinker.

SWTOR is going free-to-play next week on Thursday (Nov, 15, 2012). If you just want to explore the character stories you'll be able to play through everything from levels 1 to 50 (the current game cap). As is usual for these things, the free to play option does have limits, but if you were a subscriber or if you are willing to make a one time purchase of $5.00 US you get bumped up to Preferred Player Status which removes some of the more annoying limitations. Details are here: http://www.swtor.com/free/features and details on the PPS are here: http://www.swtor.com...d.php?p=5324114
To tie this tenuously back to Nolf, the Imperial Agent storyline is probably the best character arc of all the eight classes. An unofficial fan trailer for the Imperial Agent can be found here:
.Definitely worth your time if you would like to play a new spy/agent rpg storyline.

It's the title track from NOLF 1. One of the more enjoyable easter eggs to be found in a game.

Requiescat in pace.
My condolences to his family and friends. I did not know Natter, but had the privilege of playing with him on my few times on the servers. He was always a credit to the community.

I'm playing through Diablo 3. I'm only up to Act 2 at the moment, but I'm having fun. I want to get through the story at my own pace first and then start doing some coop games. I really enjoyed Diablo 2's coop mode over the years, so once I have my slow exploration of the game done I can play with others without slowing them down.

Deathmatch
in NOLF2
Given that Daylight Savings Time begins this Sunday in the US you might have more folks on than you realize.

It's not your fault and quite understandable to have them down if the datacenter is charging you for being on the receiving end of a DDOS attack. Feel free to add any of those costs to the monthly donation drive. We might not be able to cover them immediately, but hopefully we can help you out fairly quickly.

Ditto on the upgrade congrats. It looks nice and works well.

Anyone else playing Star Wars: The Old Republic?
I'm having a blast playing the game. I really enjoyed the the two single player Knights of the Old Republic game. SWTOR feels like Kotor 3, but with multiplayer options. The leveling process is highly story driven and unique between the classes and sides.
My Jedi Knight:

My Sith Warrior:

I've got to get used to playing at 1pm my time. I may have to set an alarm on my phone. :chuckle:
Edit: Oh, I'm using the name Pallais instead of Fortran Dragon in-game. More folks know me by my World of Warcraft main's name than by the handle I used to use on Usenet.

Wow, it has been years since I've played DD Nolf 2. I'd forgotten how much fun it was. I'd also forgotten how sensitive the mouse was in Nolf 2. I ended up going with the shotgun as I kept wildly swinging past my opponents when trying to aim. :chuckle:
Sorry for sucking so much, but at least I was a bit of comedy relief. I've got some work to do to catch up to where everyone else is. At least I remember the flow of the maps.

If you start a single player game and don't get Santa's dialog options at the very start of the game then you've got the mod loaded.
I ran across that bug recently, but figured it was just a Windows 7 64-bit quirk so just passed on getting the free skill points. I got all the way to the Main Records Building before I hit the showstopper bug. Ooops. The LivesForever mod problem also explained why I kept aggroing the guards from huge distances, too.

(Late in replying, oops.)
I see a few playing Nolf 1 so there is still interest. It is easier to find those games since Nolf 1 uses Gamespy and the in-game server browser still works.
With what remains of the Nolf fan base keeping the Nolf 2 multiplayer server system going it only makes sense to keep the focus on Nolf 2. Now if all (or almost all) of the Nolf 1 servers disappear then starting up a couple of Nolf 1 servers.
All that said, for *myself* I need to get my schedule straight so that I'm on when others are playing. Being an active player again helps a little.

but remeber, Bin Laden didnt do it...he just took credit for it...the real basterds
are running free
sry i dont beleave anything the "NEWS" tell us
becase the news is just a tool to create "BS"
I do find it amusing that you accuse the news media of being a tool, but link to a random YouTube video. :chuckle: If these folks are reporting the 'real' news how are they any less tools than the 'NEWS'?
Anyway, thanks for the conspiracy theory amusement.

If you're using a laptop you'll need to contact your computer manufacturer and see about getting it sent in for repairs.
Assuming you have a desk computer and not a laptop try hooking up the monitor cable to a different computer and see if it works. Cables often go bad first.
If your video card has two outputs you could also try connecting the cable to the other output to see if that fixes it. If the cable works on a different computer you'll want to try your monitor on another computer and another monitor on your computer to see if it is a monitor issue.
If your monitor works on another computer works then I'd suspect a failed video card. Dust and heat will kill a video card in time if you don't keep your desk computer cleaned out. (I have two cats, it is amazing how much gunk a computer will suck in over the course of a month.)
(The above steps assume the screen goes blank and you can't even get to the bios screen. Can you press F8 and get into Windows safe mode with the monitor working?)
-
Are you using a laptop with an integrated Intel video chipset? Underwater going "all black" is a known issue in those circumstances. :/

The Mac version of Nolf 2 doesn't have the launcher. It takes you straight into the game's main menu. There used to be the NOLF Modhandler tool that let you set all of this up outside the game, but it hasn't been updated in five years so I don't know if it is still available or even works.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Interesting news. Wonder if this means that it is considered "abandonware" as well?
No, it wouldn't be abandonware (which isn't a legal term). Assuming that the GPL release is true, this isn't any different from id releasing the Quake game *engines* as GPL. They still control the copyrighted Quake *games* (art assets, music, etc.). It would be good to have independent verification of the GPL release. Is there a link to a press release from the owners or other confirmation?

I've been using AVast for over 3 years now. Other than the yearly re-registration, I love every aspect of it. Updates are even FREE! I haven't had a problem on any of my puters..............when used in conjunction with Windows Defender nothing gets thru. I think Defender is the best thing Microsoft ever put out.
Defender is one of the best products they ever bought out.

Never had any serious problems with Norton myself, but it really sucks when it comes to spyware.. And
if you're so lucky that you've accidently downloaded some crap program that keeps downloading viruses,
then it will only remove the virus but it will appear again in notime..
Norton products used to be pretty good, but unfortunately they've gotten bloated and tough to remove from your system. I wish it was otherwise -- I've used Norton products from the DOS days when Peter Norton himself was doing the coding -- but Norton isn't a good recommendation these days. Symantec has really dropped the ball on their consumer utilities. (Symantec's corporate stuff isn't bad, though.)

Saved games from PC

Did you change the save game paths in the Save1001.ini file? The file is located in Save/[Your Profile Name]/SinglePlayer/ underneath the Nolf2 folder you listed. (If you don't have a profile name the folder is Save/Player/SinglePlayer/ ).
