I just found out during play in the server. Hugo told us.
Would it be appropriate, you think, for a group of us here to send flowers?
I've been friends with Natter (and by that name only) for about ten years now.
-
There are three NOLF games: NOLF, NOLF2, and Contract Jack. The "Trilogy" means all three of those.
-
Since it bypasses the now defunct master server it also bypasses CD key checking (was done by the master server for online play originally)
So to answer your question shouldn't be a problem.
When going online to play multiplayer, it prevents your computer from checking in with what used to be the Master Server at Sierra Games (no longer running) and stopping you because of a failed CD check.
In addition, the LivesForever Mod does, in fact, affect regular gameplay. If you play the single-player version of the game, it will cause a bug in one level about mid-way through that prevents you from going onward.
[spoiler BELOW][just in case]
The bug is in the Russian Main Records Building, when extracting information from the Super Computer. With the LivesForever Mod running, you will not be able to complete the mission, the door will not open, and you will be stuck - alone- inside the SuperComputer room with no way out.
If you save a game while using the LivesForever Mod, you will need to use that mod again in order to load the games. You cannot load LivesForever Saved Games without using that mod. It's a quirk. I recommend just unloading the mod if you plan on starting a new single-player campaign. Personally, though, I tend to just load from a selection of favorite saved levels, or from the chapter list, I play, and then exit without saving. The mod is not an issue.

I DIDNT GO THREW ALL THE MAPS, JUST THE ONES ON THE SERVER..
"red team = trans"
except for...
CONFLICT IN CALCUTTA
ANTARTIC AGGRESSION
SUNSET SHOWDOWN
they get batts...
all my maps, i put the batts on the blue team
Print this out. Tape it to the side of your monitor, everyone. Unless you are on the opposing team.

That would be a dream come true, but I'm not sure it would happen. There'd probably be more luck with Good Old Games, with their slew of extras they put out with the old stuff. I have such good memories from this game, since it was such a gathering place of friendly people who just wanted to have fun. If it were to come back, I would be all over that like right now, if not sooner.

Is there any way to put the LivesForever Mod, the necessary patches, and the CD bypass all together into a single install? One of the big hurdles in this game is just getting the thing going. It takes a lot of determination, something that ordinarily only exists for people who already know and love the game. If you have not played it before, it would be pretty easy to move on to something that is easier to get running.

I get online most evenings around 9:30 pm EST. I know that's right out for most of you Europeans. I usually play Team Fortress 2 at that time. If NOLFERs were on then, I would happily play that instead.

ummm ummm ummmm....it can be.....
ummmm no!

Pep's avatar is an actual video clip of him, working on maps, in response to UnityHQ Member input.

this opens a brandnew tactic...place own part..bomb your device...no on ecan steal it
Pep, is it an option to bomb our own machines?
-
No offense but no one ends in dd until the time runs out anyways, so why are we having this discussion lol.
Even with the time run out, no one CAN end if the machine is demolished. Pep has added a little twist to the game on this map. I am hoping that somehow placing a bomb in this map will completely favor the team that places the bomb, and not limit both teams when it goes off.
Pepper, as always, is diving deep into what can and cannot be done with just map and a common mod, which I very much appreciate.
-
i tryed to make the placed part respawn, im still trying,
but it looks like its not going to happen,
thats why i let either team be able to repair it...
when a team bombs the device they should take any parts off anyway,
while defending the bomb and waiting for the parts to repawn...
if they dont fix it,and parts are blow up with it...
then the mission is to repair device to be able to steel the parts back...
the other team will defend the broke device until they feel like fixing it,
so theres another reason to kill peeps

Hmmm could you get the piece to disconnect from the device when it explodes?
-
well, its not like, you can`t fix it.

All right, I like this blow-it-up and then repair it thing you have going on.
An observation:
Suppose a part is already in place on the Red DD machine. A blue team member places a bomb and Boom, no more red machine. While the machine is broken, that piece cannot be removed or picked up by anyone. This means that EITHER team now has to repair that machine in order to complete the game.
You might consider forcing the placed parts to instantly respawn - if that is possible.

Here's a "workaround" (I'm not near my PC with the game so this was the first option I've thought of so far)
Right click your nolf 2 desktop icon select properties
On the target line there is "C:\Program Files\Fox\No One Lives Forever 2\NOLF2.exe"
simply add the name of the mod you wish to run for example "C:\Program Files\Fox\No One Lives Forever 2\NOLF2.exe" -mod put name of mod here
Then when you launch nolf 2 your game will be running in that mod. this bypasses the custom button.
Search the forum too as I know your issue has been experienced by others before and there may be a better solution to resolve it already here on the forum.
Just an FYI, if the mods are not properly installed, the 'Custom' button does not show up.

YAY!...BBQ

Interesting effect when bombs are used, Pep. The other team's Doomsday Machine Assembly Point is destroyed, and they cannot complete their machine. What happens then? What happens if BOTH team blow up the others' DD machine?
I'm liking the map. I'm having trouble getting my head around the bombs.

Everything but the patches. I reinstall this so rarely, I forget all about those.
Thanks, E1. Done.
-
I recently formatted and reloaded my old computer.
After reinstalling, I first got "Invalid shell DLL cshell.dll". This had nothing to do with my .rez files, which are very streamlined. I ignored this, and selected the Lives Forever Mod, and the game ALMOST launched. Now I got "ERROR in CInterfaceMgr::Init(): Could not initialize Cursor!"
Windows Home XP Service Pack 3. NVIDEO GeForce6600. 4GB RAM. Same machine I have played on for years.
I'll keep picking at it on and off. If anyone has any insights, shout 'em out, though.
Thanks.

sry i dont beleave anything the "NEWS" tell us
becase the news is just a tool to create "BS"
Well, this video has a scary red font at the beginning, and dramatic music playing in the background, and it includes lots and lots of carefully chosen clips mashed together from many different contexts. It is obviously good journalism.

Likewise Onyx! Yeah, I'll be there as zymon! or zay

Err, I like blue. So I'd have to say blue. I don't know why I wrote that really, 15 year old me thought it was fun (: Walking in circles is pretty cool tho.
Flat black goes through the most changes as it dries. Much more exciting than blue.

I don't remember there being any point requirement for that manual. I always thought it was simply missing along one of the routes. There are points in the game where there are slight inconsitencies like this. Another example is a STM in Siberia, found on the fender of a truck in the road, which gives zero points when you pick it up.
-
I'll look up the code for that map and PM it to you.
No worries, now, E1. I found your source. "Clocklink." Very classy piece of free script - they require that I make a donation to one of the charities they list.
-
E1, I am establishing a forum for a group of professionals & academics. I am interested in including a world map with time zones, like you once had on here. Could you tell me about that map?
-
Is it odd that when I see "Simple coop mission" I imagine a team rescuing chickens?
-
Yeah, me too. Weird.
You and I both did something offensive, obviously.

Apparently old age is setting in fast. I've been telling people in the servers that we play our nightly DM at 10:00 instead of 11:00 eastern. I actually have a hard time getting on at 10:00 so it's ridiculous that I keep mixing up the time. So I'll be on at 11:00pm or earlier but NOT as early as 10:00.

Just tried to join - twice. "You have been banned or kicked from this server."

-
I usually start checking for players earlier than 11. If anyone is looking to join a little earlier (say 10:30) you might find me there.

Does anyone still have the URL for the Sierra NOLF2 forum? I am curious as to whether or not any of that content got captured by the Wayback Machine Internet Archive at http://archive.org/web/ .
