Quick question: will the number one in the primaries always select the number two as running mate?
Because it seems to me that in the case of the democrats, their roles seem already defined. Obama the charismatic inspiring frontman, Clinton the competent well-connected VP. Front office and back office. Would be weird if it ended up the other way around, wouldn't it?
No, no, no, and no. They'll choose whomever they think will benefit them on the ticket. Usually they try to get someone who will balance them out. For example, if they're weak on foreign policy (or at least *perceived* to be) they'll choose someone who's strong in it. Just as a recent f'rinstance, President Bush chose Dick Cheney, who had never even run for prez before. Hillary will likely chose Evan Bayh. How does that provide balance? Who do you think is gonna win the nomination?
Impossible to say. I used to think it would be Rudy easily. But he's playing a very different strategy than has ever been played before -- namely, ignoring the early primary states and kicking off his bid in Florida. Will he have ceded too much ground by then? Only time will tell. Looks like Huckabee's Iowa win might have been a fluke, thank God. The only conservative thing about that man is his Bible-thumping. McCain's New Hampshire win came on the backs of GD Independents and crossover Democrats. Few other states are likely to have that kind of thing happen. if McCain wins the presidency, you can rename this country Northern Mexico. I'm hoping Fred Thompson comes on strong when he kicks off his push in South Carolina, but I'm not really expecting him to get it. For now, I'm hanging my hat on Romney, and I was so glad to see my state give him the nod last night! Go Mitt!

Hey man, you're the one choosing where this topic goes, not me. I'm just trying to determine why it's about BJ's and then you're giving me examples of why Bill F'ed up.
My comment before with the (At least the BJ didn't cause a lot of innocent deaths.) wasn't meant to imply anything except that the BJ alone had no effect on his profession decisions to attack people etc. Meaning, the BJ was insignificant to the whole plot. I just realized what I said and I wanted to clear that out of the way. So I pulled a John Karry, sue me.
Many would say that the BJs caused us to wage war in Bosnia to distract people from the Lewinsky scandal. I'm sure many innocents died in that war.

As far as I could read from Wikipedia, he had a pretty clear majority both times he won (5.5% in 1992, 8.5% in 1996). True that he never went above 50%, but since Ross Perot ran as a third candidate and drew quite a few votes, that wasn't necessary nor possible.
That's a plurality, not a majority.

When Bush was running against Al Gore, Al Gore actually won the popular vote. But because of the electoral college system, Bush still won. So basically even though the majority of the country didn't vote for him, he still got into office. Really a great system we have here in America.
Bill Clinton never got a majority of the vote either. 49% was his personal best.

My Father has a Dutch friend who lives in Abcoude (sp?) who was actually a pow during WW2. He used to say that the Dutch resistance would ask new resistance fighters to prenounce certain Dutch words, from which they would easily detect if they were German infiltrators or not.

Mari, I just want you to know that despite my very firm beliefs about these issues, I don't hate gay people. From what I know of you through this forum and NOLF, I like and respect you very much. In college, I worked in a theater building sets. My boss and many of my coworkers were gay, and I had very close, personal friendships with many of them. I also waited tables in college, and of course met many gay people in that job too. Same thing happened there in terms of personal relationships. We had many drunken nights in the bars debating these same issues, and we never lost respect for each other in the process, even if there were some hard feelings from time to time. So, for what it's worth, I just want you to know that I really do hope you have much happiness in your life, and when you do not, I have deepest sympathies for you. I know no one wants my pity, and that's not what I'm offering. I just know that being gay must come with immense stresses and emotional hurt from time to time, and I wish you the best in all things.

And THAT's the problem with liberals. They CANNOT distinguish between right and wrong, good and evil, moral and immoral. Everything goes. I'm sorry to break it to you, but there IS a difference between right and wrong. It has nothing to do with opinion. I doubt you've read this whole thread to this point, so I'll just ask one question for you to respond to: Is it ok with you if a brother and sister, in adulthood, decide to live as husband and wife?

Just curious -- If AIDS is not primarily a homosexual disease, how come there are so many gay groups involved in AIDS activism? Seems to me, they shouldn't have any more interest in the issue than straights! Huh. I must be missing something...

- True, a bomb that kills only the evildoers cant be invented (i guess), but still it is not necessary to bomb a passengers train while it's running over a bridge. You could atleast wait for the train to pass (which passes this spot only twice a day btw!!!) before bombing, but no, if there is the opportunity to kill people at the same time, why not do it, eh?

What i was trying to indicate in my first post, was that it annoys me, that USA always have to be involved in everything, like they were some kind of war-loving "world police". Would you want Russia to be involved if u had some conflict on your continent? Let Europe be our business and NA yours!
So i see that attack of 9/11 as some kind of "burning fingers", to remind USA to stay the f*** out of other continents business, as long as you are not threatened yourself.
