The long delayed Final Fantasy VII remake has been confirmed to release on March 3, 2020. We will be seeing more of the game tomorrow.

This likely explains Square Enix's higher-than-usual software expectations for this year. While it was not announced as such, it can be presumed this is part one of the Final Fantasy VII remake, which supposedly is coming in multiple episodes. If all goes according to plan, this is the last E3 that at least the first episode of Final Fantasy VII will be at.

You can watch the release date trailer below.

Final Fantasy VII Remake was originally announced in 2015 at Sony's E3 press conference. After an appearance at PSX, the game disappeared from public eye until earlier this year. It will also make a big appearance at Square Enix's E3 presentation on Monday, June 10 at 6:00 p.m. PT.

    DOOM_Eternal_Slayer_Helmet_1533718928.jpg

When Doom rebooted a few years ago, there was a question of whether the game even really was a reboot. There were enough hints that the game was a sequel to the 1990s Doom series rather than a retelling of it, but nothing was particularly definitive. That changes with Doom Eternal, however.

In a conversation a few weeks ago with executive producer Marty Stratton and creative director Hugon Martin, we began talking about the internal bible of Doom Guy. He actually has multiple names within the studio: Doom Guy, Doom Marine, Doom Slayer, but the overall thinking is to make the character feel like a cross between John McClane from Die Hard and Mike Myers from Halloween; a sort of tough-as-nails action star, but a monster to his enemies.

But Martin also said it's time to answer questions about him.

"Well, one thing we're going to do is we're going to answer the question about whether or not it's the same guy from the 1993 Doom, we're gonna answer a lot of questions, actually," Martin said.

When I told him I didn't expect that, Martin explained that you can't just keep asking questions without answering them.

"I mean, there's so many good mysteries in Doom universe and we need to answer good questions, and then ask new good ones. But to be clear, we won't answer it all outright. I think that Doom's formula for how we flesh that stuff out is, usually it'll require some player investment to piece those puzzle pieces together, and we want to give the ability to do that."

Doom releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on November 22.

Arkane Lyon took the chance at this year's E3 to show off its new franchise, Deathloop. The trailer revealed the two main protagonists, Colt and Juliana. Colt seems to fight for the side of law and order, whereas Juliana embraces the chaos that comes with freedom.

However, the two have one thing in common: once they die, their day starts over. In order to break the loop, they need to take each other out. The game wants to expand on all the different tactics players could use to hunt down or run from the other.

After Fallout 76's rocky launch, Bethesda isn't giving up on it. During Bethesda's press conference, it announced two new, free modes. The first is Wastelanders, an expansion adding human NPCs with dialogue trees and a new main quest. The other is Nuclear Winter, a 52-player battle royale.

Wastelanders will launch in this fall, whereas a "sneak peek" – whatever that means – of Nuclear Winter hits tomorrow. The entirety of the game will be free for a week, from June 10 to 17, including Nuclear Winter.

Psychonauts was somewhat of a cult hit that, while not the most amazing sales success of all time, still managed to earn a surprising fanbase. When you consider the circuitous path that game took to release, having only barely come out after being dumped by Microsoft, it is shocking that it even came out at all. Now that Microsoft has revealed that they have acquired developer DoubleFine, 15 years after the release of the first game, Tim Schafer sat down with us to show off the first level from the new game.

In the demo we saw, the developers showed off the first level of the game, which takes place years after the original Psychonauts. Rasputin is now working for the Psychonauts organization and the cold open is meant to be a bit misleading, showing Ras as an unsatisfied office worker mired in bureaucracy. It is quickly revealed that this office is itself a manufactured dream world, designed to extract information from Rhombus of Ruin's villain Dr. Loboto.

    highresscreenshot00009.png

The Psychonauts crew convinces Loboto to get a vacation request signed off by his boss so that Ras can tail him and discover the boss' name and figure out who is pulling the strings. It isn't long until Loboto figures out something is amiss and begins transforming the dull office building's world into a nightmare of dental horrors. Zippers are teeth, platforms are teeth, doors are teeth, and everything makes the appropriately gross and cringe-worthy sounds.

"We might have gone too far on some of that," Schafer confesses during the demo.

Ras continues to tail Loboto as censors and other enemies stand in his way and Rasputin slowly gets more of his powers come back. Ras can punch using his mental powers, toss items around, set things on fire, and more. By the end of the level, your skillset seems to actually look like Ras felt at the end of Psychonauts and aged a few years. You do not miss a beat between the two.

    highresscreenshot00029.png

Eventually, Ras finds himself in Loboto's tower, where the doctor is mumbling to himself about his secret. Someone threatened the minor villain so deeply that his fear won't even allow him to think of divulging his boss' name. As Rasputin tries to pry a little harder, he finds himself face-to-face with a nightmare of a creature, a giant woman made of pitch-black darkness. She grasps Rasputin in her hand and the demo abruptly ends.

While we did not get hands-on time with Psychonauts 2, from what we could tell, it looks like the exact game Psychonauts fans want. It contains some more modern gameplay pacing and contemporary graphics, but it's still the same soul and personality at the center of it.

Microsoft announced at their conference today that, as part of their acquisition of DoubleFine, they purchased the publishing rights to Psychonauts 2 from the currently-imploding Starbreeze. It will still release on all the announced platforms, so PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Along with some new details about Project Scarlett, the upcoming Microsoft console, we also learned the new platform will release with Halo Infinite as a launch game.

Despite those assurances, Microsoft is still keeping details pretty close to the chest on Halo Infinite. The new trailer shows off a man in a Pelican dealing with failing systems and missing his family, when he is suddenly confronted by the appearance of Master Chief floating out in space nearby. After bringing him back on board, he revives Master Chief. We get some not-so-subtle reminders that Master Chief is now running without the aid of Cortana in his head.

We see a brief shot of a shattered Halo outside the Pelican's window and learn that while Master Chief has been missing, "we've lost everything." When something attacks, the man yells that they should run. Master Chief declares that they should fight, and the classic Halo music kicks in. In a final scene, we hear the throwback dialogue about why Cortana chose Master Chief, so it's safe to assume we're going to get some follow-through on the complicated relationship between the series' two lead characters.

Bandai Namco did not give much information other than a rough release timeframe of 2020 and giving a glimpse of the areas you explore. It showed off a seemingly huge open world as well as two protagonists.

Smilegate showed off its new tactical shooter at today's Xbox Briefing, but the brief trailer didn't give us a lot to learn about the project. The earlier incarnation of Crossfire was hugely popular in Asia, and it seems the new sequel is coming to Xbox One before any other console.

The trailer is all cinematics, so it's hard to get much of a sense of gameplay at this point. However, we do know the game will hit Xbox One in 2020.

At Microsoft's E3 press conference, The Gears of War 5 team brought quite a bit to the table, including two new trailers for the title. The first preview focused more on the story aspects of the game, while the other expanded on the future of multiplayer.

It brought up Hive Busters as well as Escape, a three-person co-op mode. A brief clip of Terminator-related content was also shown as on the horizon, but it was not expanded on any further.

Those who pre-order the game and play it within the first week will get a few surprises and rewards, but specifics were not given.

The game is scheduled to come out September 10 of this year.

Forza Horizon is a fun game, but not the same kind of fun as building something with Legos. That changes later this week; Forza Horizon 4 is crossing over with the Lego Speed Champions line for a new expansion.

The new content brings Lego's iconic brick-based aesthetic together with Forza Horizon 4's signature racing style. You still zoom through a variety of environments behind the wheel of various cars, but everything has a brick-based vibe.

See what to expect in the trailer below... but you don't need to wait long before playing it yourself. The Lego Speed Champions add-on hits Forza Horizon 4 later this week, on June 13.

The previously announced Way to the Woods got a new trailer during Microsoft's E3 Xbox Briefing, and the game certainly looks pretty.

Developed by Anthony Tan, the player controls a pair of deer moving through what appears to be an abandoned human world. The thoughtful music and attractive world design made for a nice respite from some of the other more bombastic fare that Microsoft had to share.

In addition to its appearance on Xbox One and PC, players can expect the game to be a part of Xbox Games Pass. The Way to the Woods is targeting a 2020 release timeframe.

If you've been following E3 leaks, you probably heard that Ninja Theory is making a multiplayer brawler. That info turned out to be correct, as Ninja Theory took to the stage at Microsoft's E3 presentation to unveil Bleeding Edge.

The previous details (and leaked trailer) were legit: Bleeding Edge is a 4-versus-4 multiplayer brawler. It has a variety of strange and colorful heroes who fight it out in close quarters with different powers.

While the focus on melee combat makes sense for the minds behind titles like Heavenly Sword, DmC Devil May Cry, and Hellblade, the multiplayer element is a shift for a studio that has generally focused on single-player experiences. However, Ninja Theory has demonstrated its ability to move between genres and succeed with risky projects, so don't write off Bleeding Edge just yet. In fact, you should be able to try the game for yourself soon, since a technical alpha begins on June 27.
