  1. a good DSL connection can run a 6-8 player server as a dedicated one. The nolf series games are a bit of resource hogs as far as gameservers go.

    Recommended Player Limits

    ===========================================================================

The number of players that your server can realistically handle depends

heavily on your connection speed. Use the table below to determine the

maximum number of players you should specify in the host options when

    setting up your server.

    Connection # of Players

    --------------------------------------------------------------

    56K | 2 (including host) |

    128k Upstream (low-end DSL) | 4 |

    256k Upstream (High-end DSL/Cable | 8 |

    1500k+ (T1-T3) | 16 |

  2. I received a PM about sound issues playing nolf 2 on a Mac OS X operating system.

I found this info that may help with this.

Apple has released a small update to their QuickTime software, bringing it to version 7.0.2 The changes are mostly related to general audio handling, but an astute IMG Forum reader noticed the update also appears to have fixed the audio playback issue plaguing MacPlay's first person shooter No One Lives Forever 2.

The bug made it hard to play the game using OS X 10.3 Panther and on Jaguar with QuickTime 6.4 or later. While no official word is out from MacPlay, it has been tested on an IMG staff computer with successful results.

    From the update's readme file:

QuickTime 7.0.2 delivers many important updates, including:

Apple Lossless Encoder, a new lossless audio codec that retains the full quality of uncompressed CD audio while requiring only about half the storage space.

Significant improvements to AAC encoding, resulting in high-quality sound over a full range of audio frequencies.

Enhanced support for iTunes and other QuickTime-based applications.

The update is currently available from Apple's QuickTime download.

Edit ** found the site with the patch for macs. http://files.macplay.com/files/NOLF2patch.sit

  3. If they were to make a nolf 3 I'd hope that they would improve the serverside and allow customized message of the day like most other games allow to be customized (to direct people to maps etc)

or even a redirect ability or autodownloading from the server if a client is missing a map.

  4. You know this blows BIG TIME this looks like the only shot for this mod to

be on a server for us regular non politically aligned people to play on.

Maybe these mod makers had their fame already and could careless about the

common player. Are they so proud that they can't meet the unity people even partway?

Way most of us regular CJers (ok I'm new to it but saw these guys the only ones hosting) see it these people here at unity are the only ones giving a daily rip about the CJ players.

So if not for them come post what they need to see for us, the CJ players and stop trying to slap them down for making the daily effort to keep contract jack alive.

    B) Thanks for hosting the CJ server Unityhq B)

peace - It's cool you can get these games for about $5 or less on ebay - I have all three of them now :D

ps: Is it me or do the girls in CJ sound like they are having an orgasm when you shoot them?

Thanks for posting from the "players" perspective Jazed hopefully people will hear the meaning behind it, the reason we all do this (sites, servers, mods and maps) cause we love the games and want to make them more enjoyable for those who play. Especially this time of year we should be able to put aside all things of the past, forgive and forget and move on forward together.

  5. Saw this movie this weekend and I have to say to me it's one of the best movies to come along in awhile.

It holds very true to the book.

The only obvious addition was the river-ice scene (which does not appear in the books). But it does enhance the action/adventure quotent, and gives us some more glimpses into Susan's (the older sister) character.

A quote about the "religious" undertones I read that kind of puts it in perspective.

-In regards to the religious undertones: Lewis actually intended for this to be taken BOTH ways. Basically he wanted Christian children to have a safe and ethical fantasy series/world to get lost in without the tainted "evilness" that most magic gets labeled with by religious circles (i.e. Southern Baptist's Conventions' Harry Potter boycott). But he also didn't want readers such as Tolkein fans (and Tolkein himself, who was a close personal friend of CS Lewis) to be turned off by the undertones.

  6. Ok I'll start off.

    1. Did your work on the Nolf series open up more opportunities for you as an actor?

(I notice your name is listed in the HL2 credits)

    2. What was it like to work with the other actors? Do you know some of them beyond "work"? If so does that help when working with them?

  7. Hello and welcome to Unityhq Rosella here's the walkthrough for the section you are at.

It contains how to do that whole section so read as much of it as you need to etc

    Diary Of A Double Agent

    Location: Akron, Ohio

Turn on the lights. On your left you'll see a poster. Remove it and there's a button. It needs batteries to work. Explore the rest of this floor. You'll need to locate five tapes coded by colors: red, green, purple, orange, yellow - these are Melvin's audio memoirs. Open all the drawers that can be opened and cabinets as well. You'll also locate correspondence between a Mr Smith and Blitzny, which will trigger off an optional quest of finding more.

Go upstairs when you're done and explore. You should find more tapes as well as a tape recorder on the ground floor, which you can use to play those tapes. There are also more letters between Smith and Blitzny.

When you're done, go up to the first floor. The first room to the left has nothing much. The one after that is just a store. The last room on the left down the corridor is the room with the batteries (in a drawer) and a secret passage to the room right in the middle. Loot the place (locate the last tape) and then return downstairs. Listen to the tapes before going downstairs to use the batteries on the button.

This will open a secret door right behind you. Go through and loot the place. Once you locate evidence linking Blitzny to HARM, you'll hear Isako and her ninjas coming, so you'll have to escape.

There are quite a few ninjas to deal with so make sure to keep as quiet as possible if you don't want an ambush. Right up the stairs to the 1st floor are a few so take them out quickly. You can't get out the front doors so you'll need to use a window on the 1st floor. The only one open is in the toilet right opposite the bedroom, which seems to be also a store for Blitzny's old trade (vacuum cleaners). Before you go out, make sure you have enough armor. When you gear up, go out that window to load the next stage: Storm rolling in. Save!

Note: Armor is extremely important here as ninjas use metal weapons so without armour (as advised by the loading screen tip), your damage goes down helluva lot faster. I'd advise reducing difficulty here to easy as this is one place that's really crazy. Also, try and aim for the head always, even when using your katana, and strafe left and right constantly. I find engaging them with the katana a lot faster myself. Avoid them until they run out of shurikens and then melee with them. Don't bother looting the corpses as they now vapourise just as they hit the ground.

Try and get the ninjas from a distance by using all of your available shurikens and guns. Go to the front of the house and Santa will tell you that the main road is blocked. Fight off as many ninjas as you can and you'll see an electric pole collapse on the wooden fence of the first house to your left (if you are still at Melv's house). This will make a gap in the fence so go through that. Go along the back of the house and you'll see another gap in the fence. Go through to the next stage: Tornado trouble. Save!

Watch the cut scene and marvel at the twister!

The trick here is to run around and let the ninjas find you. Pick up whatever loot you can, especially bullets, armor and you can also pick up a shotgun. Don't stay in one place, and save often until you see the mission to defeat Isako.

After a while, your fight will take you into a house and you can see that the twister is also joining in the fun. The trick here is to stay in one corner of the house and let Isako appear and then only engage her as quickly as you can. Use your katana if you have one - does a lot more damage. There are two armour vests you can use to replenish within the house. Defeat her and watch the cut scene.

Whose voice talents were used in No One Lives Forever 2 and many others top games, has graciously agreed to answer some of our member's questions in an email interview. If you have a question you would like to submit to be asked of John post it here.

Thanks Major for setting this up B)

  9. In your SCMD command list (assuming you're logged into SCMD) run the listclients command. Player name or not they are still assigned a client number. Simply ban/boot etc the number/numbers with no player name associated with them.

    SCMD command

Example: You are logged into SCMD through a client connected to a

dedicated server, and one of the other players becomes abusive. With SCMD,

you can boot the player through your client like this:

Type "SCMD listclients". This will display text similar to the following:

    Client List format: clientid) [name][ping][ip]

    0) [smiley][0][0.0.0.0]

    1) [Cheater][80][123.456.789.012]

    2) [Player0][120][321.654.987.210]

From here, you can type "SCMD bootname Cheater", or "SCMD bootid 1" to

remove the problem player from the server.

Then, if the player logs in again and continues to cause trouble, you can

locate his IP address from the client list, and then ban that IP. For

instance, if the IP address was 123.456.789.012, you would ban it by typing

    "SCMD addban 123.456.789.012

You can also skip that step and do a BanClient (example BanClient 1 to ban client 1)

  10. Since more than one person has encountered this (myself included) and used one of these methods to fix it. I'm putting this in the general tech area here as well.

    SYMPTOMS

When you start or play any one of the games that is listed in the "Applies to" section, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms: • The game stops responding.

    • The game quits unexpectedly.

    • The computer restarts unexpectedly.

    • The game minimizes to the Microsoft Windows Taskbar and cannot be restored.

Additionally, you may receive the following error message after you receive the Gathering Exception Data dialog box:

<Game Name>has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Method 1: Restart your computer by using a clean boot procedure

When you start Microsoft Windows, typically there are a number of programs that start automatically and run in the background that may interfere with the game. These programs may include antivirus and system utility programs. When you perform a clean boot, you prevent these programs from starting automatically. You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.

To restart your computer by using a clean boot procedure, follow these steps when you are using Windows XP.

Note You may experience a temporary loss of some services functionality when you follow these steps. Restoring the settings restores the functionality, but may result in the return of the original error message or behavior. 1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.

    2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.

    3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the following check boxes: • Process SYSTEM.INI File

    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click User Accounts.

    2. In the Pick a task list box, click Create a new account.

    3. Type the name that you want to use for the account, and then click Next.

    4. Select the account type that you want, and then click Create Account.

Note Some games require a user account with administrator account type to run.

    Windows XP Professional Edition

    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click User Accounts.

    2. On the Users tab, click Add.

    3. Type a name for your user account, your full name, and a description for your account.

    4. If your computer is set up as part of a client/server network, type the domain name, and then click Next.

Note If your computer is set up as an individual computer (without a network) or in a peer-to-peer network, you do not have to provide a domain name.

    5. Type a user password, and then type the user password again to confirm it.

Important Passwords are case–sensitive. For example, “MyPassword” and “mypassword” are treated as two different passwords.

    6. Click Next.

    7. Select the level of access for your user account, and then click Finish.

Note Some games require a user account with Administrator level access to run.

    Hope this helps

  11. Well, I believe even intel intergrated videocards can run nolf2, so if you don't want to spend much money you can get a decent laptop at 800$. But if you can spare a bit more the best thing to do is to buy a laptop with an ATI or Nvidia mobile videocard.

actually integrated Intel vid doesn't have T & L Support so if the goal is to play games on

the laptop then get something with ATI mobile video on it.

  12. I heard an old saying "A man marries a woman hoping she will never change....a woman marries a man hoping to change him." So, if this holds true, change what he likes to play and make him play some multiplayer with us :)

    LOL !!!!!!

He wants a rail gun for Nolf 2 (Yep he used to play alot of Quake)

  13. Knix' date='Dec 2 2005, 11:56 AM' post='18995']

Relax major, no need to rush in and be heroic...i'm just pulling all your chains. Its not an issue...just having fun....

However while I have your attention...you never answered a question I asked you...do you play NOLF2? The reason why I ask...is I never see you. Now I don't care if you do or if you don't. You're making kissy face with the big cheese of this outfit, so you're in through association, but you seem to have points about the game (phos good/bad, etc), just wondering.

He has Nolf 2 (I gave him my extra discs)

    Kissy face

I'm ignoring your last post though

  14. I'm a Buddist and I don't have a problem with the "Happy Holidays" part. There is nothing in

this theme that makes a religious statement of any kind.

"Happy Holidays" can include Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and even New Years.

    It's a pretty generic statement ;)
