There has been some reported problems getting older games to run with the 1803 build of Windows 10 that was released in April.

If you decide to update to it try out all your older games right away. If you find issues right away you can use the rollback feature to return to the previous windows build provided you don't wait too long to do so (I believe it only gives 30 days to rollback)

The first thing to check when experiencing any trouble running a game is the game's minimum system requirements against your computer system.

The minimum requirements for the game can usually be found on the bottom or the back of the box. If you do not meet all of the game's minimum requirements, it will not run correctly on your computer. Additionally, some games will have recommended system requirements that must be met in order to experience all the features of the game.

Please run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool which takes a snapshot of your machine and shows you what it sees.

1. Steps how to run DXDIAG

-Click the Start button and click Run.

-In the Run dialog box, type dxdiag

-Click OK.

The DirectX Diagnostic Tool gives you most of the system information you need in a window with multiple tabs.

In System tab area, collect the following information to compare to the minimum requirements:

-Operating System

-Processor

-Memory

-DirectX Version

Click on the DISPLAY tab and under DEVICE compare with the minimum requirements:

-Name

-Manufacturer

-Approximate Total Memory

Click the SOUND tab and collect the following information under Device to compare with the minimum requirements:

-Name

-Manufacturer

2. You'll also need to know how much disk space you have.

Find Out how much Hard Disk space you have

-Click the Start button and choose My Computer.

-Right-click Local Disk (C:).

-From the pop-up menu, select Properties.

-The General tab lists Used space and Free space information in bytes, gigabytes, and in an easy-to-read pie chart.

3. Check for the CD-ROM drive speed, most manufacturers print the speed on the front of the CD-ROM drive tray itself. In some cases, you'll need to check the manual that came with the computer or contact computer manufacturer.

If you need help reading the snapshot post it here in the forum and I'd be glad to assist you with interpreting the results.

NOLF 2 crashed after graphics go weird

Hi,

However, the odd thing about my problem is that I had no trouble running either game - NOLF or NOLF2 - on my system [Dell Inspiron 530, ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT card, 32-bit system], yet that was when I had Win XP as the OS. I updated to Win7 last spring [2011], and now the dumb computer is trying to tell me I don't have either Direct X 8.1 [i've got better than that] or/nor do I have a video card with TnL. Yet if I lacked that, how is it the game ran fine when I was using XP? For NOLF, I'm getting either a "cannot configure D3D emulator" error or a "missing cshell.dll" error. ANd threse errors persist despite me reloading twice, and for the second install I made sure to shut down my iTunes and everything extraneous. Yet no change - the same errors. I even downloaded a new Catalyst package to ensure I had the updated drivers for my video card, but again, no such luck. Perhaps someone out there might have some advice for me. I would really like to introduce a friend to this game, but I'm not about to return to XP - where would I even get a copy?

Not even the patch available on this site was any help to me. And to add insult to injury, my wife's old "Fail Comp" - the old laptop she inherited from her folks when they got a much better one - is running NOLF fine, and it's got Win& on it, too! Seriously, I am at a loss as to what I must have lost in "upgrading" to Win7.

No Joining by IP tool - help plz

The other day I wanted to connest to our beloved NOLF2 game as always with the JoinByIPtool - but that didnt work all of a sudden.
I'd go into more detail about the laptop itself but having also installed Nolf 2, which works perfectly, i figure there must be something else at work, besides hardware, for why Nolf 1 is suffering so much mouse lag. Here's what i've tried so far

Raising in-game mouse smoothing to max

Turning on in-game buffering

Unchecking 'enhance pointer precision' in control panel

Using Microsoft's so-called 'fix' for known mouse lag issues

Changing Vsync settings (off and on)

I was able to copy my installed files from my old 32-bit system to my new 64-bit one and get it to work, but have been unable to make a backup copy of my original game CD's that work. (I want to let me son play it, but as he is young want to make sure my original CD's don't get destroyed accidently).

First I tried copying all the CD files to a hard drive folder, and then re-writing them to a new CD with the identical label as the original CD. When the game starts, it simply won't use this CD and asks for the correct CD to be put in... I tried this process a couple of times, and the copy CD looks identical in content to the original - it just won't work...

Next I tried making a track by track image of the original CD, to burn onto a new CD. Even though my original CD is in perfect shape (with no errors reading any of the original files on it and able to run the game fine), the imaging utility reports numerous errors reading particular sectors - and won't make a copy that is usable. I wondered if the original (GOTY edition) CD had intentional bad sectors on it, as a copy protection mechanism or something?

In the download section here, I see that there is a downloadable zip file available of all the CD contents, but don't know why burning a CD from that would be any different than my first attempt to make a backup CD described in the second paragraph? (In my attempt, all the files were read and written with no errors at all - but then the CD just didn't work).

So how can I make a backup copy of my NOLF discs that will work?

I'd love to apply a "no CD" crack, and found one that supposedly works - but it isn't compatible with a 64-bit Windows system. Didn't see any 64-bit version anywhere in the download section here, but if there was - that may be an even better option.

Thanks for any information!

NOLF 1 MFC app fail

So I used the 64 bit installer of this game a few weeks ago to install and relive this fantastic game (I have Win7 64 bit) and it worked like a charm for a few weeks. Then one day I tried to launch it and a small black screen (i'm sure you have all seen or heard about) pops up saying "mfc application has stopped working."

I've tried re installing ALL compatibility modes, running as admin, disabling visual themes as well as every option under the settings section in the compatibility window (all of this on the NOLF.exe and the Lithtech). I've manually installed the game by copying the game folder and .rez files. I've endlessly tweaked nvidia control panel settings (I have a gtx 660 ti). I've even gone so far as to wipe my pc and reinstall windows 7.

I'm up to my neck in frustrations with why this is happening and how to fix it! I was half way through the game when this happened and I just don't know what else i can do. If anybody can give me some advice or direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
