Nolf 2 Multiplayer Post Master Server Shutdown

Some of you may have noticed that you're unable to play multiplayer Nolf 2 since Monday Nov 3rd 2008. Sierra has shutdown the master server for the game.

Don't despair though cause we have a resilient community and we've come up with a workaround so you can continue to play NOLF2 multiplayer.

If anyone is confused at all, here is some less technical guidance.
-You are going to download and install the mod.
-You are going to set your game to always start with that mod.
-You are going to be able to join the SFI UHQ servers with a double-click of your mouse.

1. Download and install the LivesForever mod. Download it from Here
---- a. Create a folder C:\Program Files\Fox\No One Lives Forever 2\Custom\Mods\LivesForever (Spelling is important so name it exactly like this LivesForever )

---- b. Put the contents of LivesForever RAR file into that folder.
---- c. Yes, you really do have to make that folder.
2. Start NOLF2 like you used to, and select the new mod.
---- a. Instead of the "Play" button, hit "custom," which is right below it.

---- b. Check the box next to the "LivesForever" Mod.
---- c. Start the game.
---- d. Close the game. Now the you have selected the mod, it will stay selected until you restart the game and deliberately unselect it.
3. Start the JoinByIP Tool. You can download the Join By IP Tool Here

---- A. Choose the tab for DM or DD.
---- B. Double-click the server you want to join (Example the SFI DM server 70.86.157.250:27888 )

 

You can also use URA's Multi-Player Launcher that you can download from HERE

It pulls the information automatically from the "master server" hosted by us here at UnityHQ.

Any person with install rights to their PC can make a folder on it per the instructions.

Gamespy relied on the Sierra Master Server for the Server up down data for NOLF2 so they may or may not have the ability to show the servers anymore. I don't have gamespy so I haven't verified this.

 

We have been posting this "workaround" on various sites to spread the word.

Yes I could change the name of the servers but since you can't use the game to browse you would have to have the Join by IP tool to browse the servers.

Ok then I guess Gamespy can see the servers still. You'd still have to have the mod installed and selected to connect to a server. I haven't used Gamespy for quite sometime as it used to leave "tracking" stuff on my PC.

 

On Join by IP tool (http://sficlan.net/nolf2servers/tmp)

 

This URL receives live info from our servers. Basically its updated each time one of the SFI or UHQ servers is rebooted, shutdown etc.

 

I haven't tried to connect to a server via gamespy so you'd have to tell me if you actually are able too.

 

I know you can connect to the servers if you have the LivesForever or URA's latest Weapons mod if you use the Join by IP Tool, a batch file or Xfire.

All servers should be visible from the interface of game!!!

NOOB the master-server should not see our problems with absence.

All should be very simple.

If you can get the staff a The site that shall not be named to care about this issue then by all means. I haven't seen anything on their site about the mod made for joining the servers since this happened.

 

For your comment All servers should be visible from the interface of game!!! this would require some recoding of the source code and a method to get it to "autoupdate" to players. This would require considerable resources. Sierra/Activision isn't going to assist in it either.

Really nice work everybody, I simply want to thank everybody who helped to keep NOLF2 "alive"...I still play regularly with few members of =NS=, and it's still a bit fun :)

 

By the way since when does the UHQ server have the skill option enabled? Did I miss something? :D

Once there, click the "print screen" button on your keyboard. This takes the screenshots.

Step3

Go to the "Paint" tool. Go to "edit" and then "Paste". There is your screenshot.

 

Then upload it to imageshack or photobucket.

Change your desktop shortcuts properties to "C:\Program Files\Fox\No One Lives Forever 2\NOLF2.exe" -mod LivesForever

 

If that doesn't work create a new profile then load the game.

Ever less than new players in NOLF2.

The reason in that the administration <http: // www.unityhq.net/> distributes Join by IP Tool from Sasser with the constant list of servers.

I live in the Europe. Servers unityhq.net have too big ping for me.

I have created server NOLF2. Now, that other players using Join by IP Tool from Sasser (almost all players), have seen my server, I should write letter SAssER? To ask SAssER to include my server in « the constant list »?? To look forward to hearing??

If SAssER performs job "master-server" it is necessary to work for everyone who wishes to make a server, and not just for unityhq.net and other "elites".

How it to make?

Ask at URA.

He for a long time has made it.

...as far as I understood your post, you think I should change the default URL setting of the Join by IP tool to http://sficlan.net/nolf2servers/tmp ?

Well of course I could do this, but as you only have to change it once and then save your settings I don't really think it's necessary

 

And with the new LivesForeverPlus Mod it's not even necessary to use the Join by IP tool anymore, though...

Are you using the files URA made that allows the server to send in it's status so the join by IP tool can find it? I've attached them to this post in case you don't have them.
